How We Tested the THC-O Carts

Comparing a variety of THC-O vape cartridges on the market
We extensively tested eleven of the most popular THC-O vape cartridges to find the strongest and cleanest options available. Photo: Mell Green/CBD Oracle

In order to come up with our top five list, our team went through a thorough analysis of the current THC-O vape cartridges on the market. After compiling a list of the 32 most popular, we then wanted to narrow down the list based on the strict criteria we came up with for these vape cartridges. The criteria for our top five THC-O vapes are as follows:

  • Extract Quality: Does the brand use any cutting agents or harmful additives like vitamin E acetate in their vapes? How pure is the distillate that they use?
  • Flavor: How do the vapes taste? Are the flavors/terpenes natural or do they taste artificial? Can you pick out distinguishing flavors between strains?
  • Cartridge Functionality: How well did the cartridge work? Did it clog easily? Was airflow ample or was it difficult to pull large hits?
  • Company Transparency: Is the company open and honest about their cartridges’ additives? Do they have third-party lab reports readily available for consumers to read? Do they have information about extraction techniques?
  • Lab Reports: Are the brand’s COAs detailed? Are they tested by a credible lab? Do they check for impurities like heavy metals, pesticides, or residual solvents?

From there, we were able to knock out the brands that simply didn’t meet our expectations. After this, we looked at every brand in the remaining five individually to determine their strengths and weaknesses regarding flavor, quality, potency, and functionality. That’s how Binoid came out on top! Learn more about our independent testing methodology.

Guide to Buying THC-O Cartridges

Still have some questions regarding THC-O vape cartridges? We’ll answer a few frequently asked questions below.

What is THCO?

THCO, also known as Delta-8-THCO-acetate, is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid that’s made from hemp-derived delta-8 THC. Essentially, professionals will take hemp and extract CBD from it. Then, they extract delta-8 from the CBD and combine the delta-8 with a chemical compound called acetic anhydride. This reaction creates the THCO cannabinoid.

What Are the Effects of THC-O Cartridges?

The effects of THC-O-acetate cartridges depend on the cartridge, its terpene content, and the strain. However, in general, many people report that THC-O makes them feel giggly, extra euphoric, and energized. Other consumers find that THC-O carts can be great for reducing stress, helping to calm them down when necessary.

They’re great for boosting moods and leveling out anxieties, but they are incredibly potent, so make sure you consume them with caution.

RELATED: Is THC-O Stronger than THCP?

Is THC-O Stronger than Delta-8 THC?

THC-O is going to be a lot stronger than delta-8 THC. Delta-8 is a milder version of delta-9, and THC-O is three times stronger than delta-9. Thus, D8 is about half as potent as THC-O, though they do promote similar effects. In general, delta-8 will be better at reducing anxiety, while THC-O is best for uplifting the mood.

How Does THC-O Compare to Delta-9 THC?

Compared to delta-9 THC, THC-O is around three times stronger. This makes the cannabinoid incredibly potent and only ideal for those who are incredibly experienced in the world of cannabis. Always start with a very low dose of THC-O and wait at least 30 minutes to an hour before taking a second puff of your THC-O cart to ensure effects aren’t too overwhelming.

Is THC-O Natural or Synthetic?

THCO is a semi-synthetic compound. The cannabinoid originates from CBD, making it natural in that sense; however, in order to make it, chemists do have to combine the natural cannabinoids with an unnatural chemical compound. Thus, THCO is considered semi-synthetic.

Final Thoughts

Pure THC-O carts that come from reputable brands are some of the best products that the cannabis industry has offered. These products are unique in so many ways, creating highs that are truly unlike anything else.

However, with how new and unregulated these products are, it’s crucial to only purchase from reputable brands with high-quality ingredients and strict extraction processes. Thankfully, we’ve done all the hard work for you! Whether you’re looking for the best tasting vape, the one that’s best for energy, or the most potent, you can find a top-shelf, trustworthy option right on this list.
