THC-free CBG oil dropper
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Pain relief. Due to having a higher tolerance and experiencing strong pain and bloating in the stomach, I ingested 1.25 ml, or a 62.5 mg dose of Lazarus Naturals CBG oil. The physical symptoms disappeared in about an hour and 20 minutes.

Flavorless. Lazarus Naturals’ CBG tincture stands out from the rest as it’s virtually flavorless and has absolutely no hemp taste or aftertaste, which is great if you’re picky when it comes to flavor profiles. This tincture is highly recommended if you’re looking for a super-effective solution to help relieve pain and inflammation – and it’s also very affordable at only $40 for 1500mg of this USDA-Organic CBG oil.

Added antioxidants. CBDfx’s wellness 2:1 tincture is a stand-alone product in which not only does it carry both CBD and CBG cannabinoids, but also the addition of proven antioxidants curcumin and coenzyme Q10. These are said to be “nutrient powerhouses” and are good for inflammation and heart health. It also has an added proprietary blend of 18 different terpenes which claims to be for increased absorption and efficacy for all ingredients involved.

High CBD and THC-free. This broad-spectrum CBG oil contains absolutely zero THC, so it’s a great product for those who are looking for therapeutic benefits without the high. This tincture has the highest amount of CBD per milliliter of all the 2:1 oils tested, which contains 67mg of CBD and 33mg of CBG. A great option for those seeking out a higher dosage of CBD!

Odd flavor. I tested this CBG oil one early morning when I woke up with a sharp pain in the back of my head. I ingested one milliliter on an empty stomach, to which I felt a nice sweet taste on the tongue, and no signs of cannabis flavor anywhere. But quickly afterward, I was unfortunately faced with a strange plasticky aftertaste. Granted, the pain was completely relieved about 45 minutes to an hour later. If you are someone who appreciates effectiveness over flavor, then this tincture is definitely the way to go.

Best CBG Oil for Anxiety: Extract Labs 1:1 CBD + CBG

Full-spectrum CBG oil by Extract Labs
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $89.99 from Extract Labs

Colorado’s very own Extract Labs offers users a balanced CBG to CBD full-spectrum tincture that uses CO2 extraction and is made with an organic coconut carrier oil. It’s a good solution for those who are looking to mitigate anxiety-induced symptoms and a good support for those who are looking to mentally and physically relax.

Although it does have a higher price point of $89.99 for a 30ml bottle, Extract Labs also offers a 50% discount for qualifying individuals such as veterans, active military, teachers, first responders, healthcare workers, those on disability and lower-income. This company has great intentions of making their products accessible to all.

The Good

  • Full-spectrum extract
  • Effective at relieving anxiety
  • Transparent company
  • GMP-certified
  • Colorado-grown hemp
  • Tested for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals, see the COA

The Bad

  • Bitter flavor
  • Slightly expensive

Effects

  • Effects felt: Calm, Relaxed
  • Good for: Anxiety, Rest
  • Bad for: Sports/Outdoor Activities

Our Review

Extract Labs CBG oil dropper
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Packaging. Right away, Extract Labs’ packaging is extremely eye-catching. Their use of neutral brown colored packaging stands out among the rest and brings a sense of nature-like tranquility and peace. I find that bright colors, along with various types of fonts and text alignments used by other companies can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming to the eye – or even a bit too “pharmaceutical” looking. But Extract Labs does a great job in creating a simple and easy-to-follow packaging label.

What’s also great about their packaging is the actual bottle inside. It’s the only bottle out of all eight products in this review that is transparent and there’s absolutely no difficulty in seeing how much product is left inside the bottle. It may seem like a minor detail, but it’s an important one!

Anxiety relief. As a person who copes with stress and anxiety in my day-to-day life, I collaborated with this balanced tincture in hopes to mitigate or eliminate some of the physical symptoms I was feeling that day. Two full milliliters were tested, or 66 mg of CBG and CBD in the late afternoon, just after having a quick lunch break.

Flavor. Be aware though that if you don’t like the cannabis taste, then this product will be hard to swallow and enjoy. The flavor is extremely grassy and earthy, with an even stronger bitter aftertaste. For me personally, flavor isn’t a huge dealbreaker, but its bitterness certainly turned my tastebuds off. But flavor aside, the anxiety dissipated and was gone about an hour later. I felt both physically and mentally relaxed and was ready for a nap.

Best Overall Quality: Medterra 1:1 CBD + CBG Oil

Medterra 1:1 CBD CBG oil
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $74.99 from Medterra

Medterra’s CBG+CBD balanced 1:1 tincture is delightful and delicious with its citrus flavor, and is a good choice for its fast onset and effects. It’s also a great product for consumers looking to help relax and mentally focus at any point of the day.

With their products being organically grown, non-GMO, and THC-free, users are greatly informed on how transparent Medterra is and how they strive to provide their customers with top quality products. The price point is slightly above average, but it’s definitely worth the investment!

The Good

  • Subtle citrus flavor, no hemp aftertaste
  • Fast onset of effects
  • Derived from organic hemp
  • Balanced 1:1 Ratio
  • US Hemp Authority Certified
  • Tested for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals, see the COA

The Bad

  • Excess packaging
  • Bottle isn’t childproof
  • Doesn’t disclose method of extraction

Effects

  • Effects felt: Focused
  • Good for: Anytime
  • Bad for: Users with citrus sensitivities

Our Review

Citrus flavor. One of the reasons that Medterra’s 1:1 CBD/CBG tincture is a wonderful product is because of its faint and subtle citrus flavor. It’s a fantastic choice for those who aren’t a huge fan of the earthy cannabis taste and those who are looking to help focus and/or relax. If you are one who is on the hunt for an ingestible oil with absolutely no THC, then this broad-spectrum CBG oil will do the trick as it contains nothing but only CBG and CBD cannabinoids. A bonus is that the MCT carrier oil you ingest is organic.

Packaging improvements. One area I would like to see improve from Medterra is their packaging. There is an exterior box with the bottle of product inside, however it would make more sense to eliminate the box altogether. This is mainly due to the information on both the bottle and the box being exactly the same, as well as being more sustainable by eliminating waste.

Another area would be their lab reports. Now, this goes to say that the oil has been tested thoroughly for potency, pesticides, heavy metals, and solvents. But on the other hand, it’d be nice to see them take it further by testing for terpenes. Their ingredients list states ‘natural citrus flavor’, but it would’ve been great to have seen some natural terpenes listed like limonene instead, similar to Bluebird Botanicals’ Uplift 1:1 oil. Natural citrus flavor sounds a little too vague.

Best for Pain Relief: CBDistillery Synergy CBG + CBD 1:1 Tincture

CBDistillery hemp CBG oil
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $75 from CBDistillery

CBDistillery’s Daytime Synergy CBG + CBD oil does a phenomenal job at relieving some strong pain and inflammation in the body, along with providing relaxed, focused, and calming cerebral effects.

However, if you’re a snob when it comes to the flavor department, don’t get your hopes up too high, as this one has a very apparent grass-like hemp taste. Great for those who have a medium tolerance level as each bottle contains 1000mg of CBG/CBD per bottle. So if your tolerance is on the higher side, then there’s the option of upgrading to the 2000mg bottle instead.

The Good

  • Effective for pain relief and inflammation
  • Calming cerebral effects
  • Informative packaging labels
  • US Hemp Authority Certified
  • Tested for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals, see the COA

The Bad

  • Grassy flavor and aftertaste
  • No precise measurement on dropper
  • Doesn’t disclose method of extraction

Effects

  • Effects felt: Focused, Relaxed
  • Good for: Pain, Inflammation, Anytime Use
  • Bad for: Activities requiring high energy

Our Review

Prepare to be amazed when trying CBDistillery’s Daytime Synergy CBG + CBD 1:1 tincture! I was on day two of the most excruciating neck pain from dancing a little too hard at a concert a few nights prior. The pain was extremely uncomfortable and I was very sore and stiff with a nice little headache on the top of my head.

For mild pain relief. The product was tested in the early afternoon and on an empty stomach. Because the neck pain was so strong, a larger dose of 5 x 1ml droppers equating to 85mg each of CBG and CBD was used. About thirty minutes later, the pain on the top of my head subsided. Then about another 15-30 more minutes after that, I could literally move my head around and stretch my neck without feeling any sharp, excruciating pain! The pain wasn’t totally eliminated, but I was so happy to finally feel some relief for the next few hours. Feelings of relaxation and calmness were also experienced.

Because of how drastic my pain was, this CBG oil is recommended to those who are looking for mild to medium pain relief, and who will use it sporadically. With the dose I took, I would only be able to get a total of six doses, which isn’t very economical when it comes to $75 for a 30ml bottle.

Inconsistent packaging. The oil dropper inside the bottle has no distinctive measurement lines in milliliters, so it’s difficult to have an accurate dosage when you have to eyeball it and guess. There is a visual diagram on the external packaging to refer to for dosing, but I firmly think it’s too inconsistent and easily mistakable, especially for those that are inexperienced or new to oil consumption.

Best Flavor: Bluebird Botanicals

Bluebird Botanicals CBG oil
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $44.95 from Bluebird Botanicals

The Uplift balanced CBG and CBD oil by Bluebird Botanicals is a great choice for consumers who might be new to experimenting with hemp supplements and are looking for something to stabilize their mood.

This tincture is also a great candidate for those who are experiencing brain fog or just need a little bit of a push to reach mental clarity and equilibrium. And with its affordable price point and delightful flavor, it’s truly a product that’s worth giving a try!

The Good

  • Tasty flavor
  • Great for reducing brain fog
  • Positive mood lift
  • Full-sepectrum extract
  • Tested for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals, see the COA

The Bad

  • Low potency per serving (ideal for beginners)
  • Currently only offers one potency option
  • More expensive than other brands

Effects

  • Effects felt: Mental Clarity, Calm, Focused, Content
  • Good for: Brain Fog, Stress, Mood Support
  • Bad for: Those with high tolerance

Our Review

Delightful flavors. The Bluebird Botanicals 1:1 full-spectrum oil stands apart from its competitors in this list with its great flavor and absolutely no cannabis taste or aftertaste. They added the limonene and pinene terpenes to the ingredients list, which was present on the tongue when tested, but the pinene was extremely subtle at the end.

Simple packaging. Bluebird Botanicals’ packaging is very simple and sleek, using a nice soft blue as their choice of color on the label and a sustainable glass bottle that is translucent brown and easy for consumers to see how much of their product is left.

Mental clarity. The Uplift CBG oil was tested just before lunchtime on an empty stomach. At the time, I was experiencing some brain fog and a stiff neck from the gym a few days prior. I was hoping to relieve these symptoms before I started to jump into some computer work for the afternoon. And sure enough, I was feeling great just a short 40 minutes after consumption. Both the brain fog and stiff neck had subsided, and I was greeted with mental clarity, feelings of calmness and contentment, and ready to focus on the tasks at hand.

Fair price. This product is recommended to those who have a lower tolerance, that way you can get the maximum amount of doses per bottle. The price point is pretty fair at only $49.99 for a 30ml bottle, or $1.66 per dose. This is the third lowest priced product on the list right after Plain Jane and Lazarus Naturals CBG oil.

Best Organic: NuLeaf Naturals

NuLeaf Naturals CBG oil bottle
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $49 from NuLeaf Naturals

Although NuLeaf Naturals CBG oil is thoroughly lab tested and carries the highest potency per dosage (60mg CBG per 1 milliliter) of all products tested, there’s a shortage in flavor profiles. It also comes at a reasonable price tag of $49 for 900mg CBG.

While most tinctures combine CBD and CBG, NuLeaf offers a full-spectrum CBG tincture. This is a good tincture to consider if you need support for mild pain or if you are seeking a supplement for post-physical activity recovery.

The Good

  • Effective at relieving mild pain
  • Full-spectrum extract
  • Made with organic hemp
  • GMP-certified
  • No wasteful packaging
  • Opaque bottle extends shelf life
  • Tested for potency, pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals, see the COA (Batch #G121H2175)

The Bad

  • Expensive
  • Not the best flavor
  • No measurements on dropper

Effects

  • Effects felt: Slight Pain Relief
  • Good for: Pain, Workout Recovery, All Tolerance Levels
  • Bad for: Flavor activists

Our Review

Thorough lab testing. A positive attribute of NuLeaf Naturals is their thorough lab testing and ensuring that products are safe for consumption. They use independent labs to confirm that their products are free from pesticides, heavy metals, and other residual solvents. NuLeaf is also certified by the Detox Project, which is an accredited research and certification platform that encourages transparency in food and supplement industries and their use of pesticides.

Dropper. Another downfall was that the dropper inside the bottle didn’t have any measurement markers, making it a little more challenging to dose. You also aren’t able to see through the bottle itself because it’s opaque, making it impossible to see how much product is left inside.

Effective pain relief. Although NuLeaf Naturals is looking like it could use a few more upgrades, it doesn’t dismiss the fact that it was effective in mitigating my post-gym soreness. It relieved some of the muscle pain and I was able to fall asleep with ease.

Most Affordable: Plain Jane

Cannabigerol oil by Plain Jane
Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

Available for $35.99 from Plain Jane

Being the most affordable product on this list, Plain Jane CBG oil comes in a 30 mL bottle for only $35.99. It’s enough if you’re looking for some pain relief on a budget, but with a lack of lab testing transparency, flavor, and accreditation, it’s not really anything to write home about.

The Good

  • Very affordable
  • Good for mild pain and inflammation

The Bad

  • Bland flavor
  • Basic packaging
  • Bottle isn’t childproof
  • Tested for potency only. Not tested for pesticides, residual solvents, or heavy metals, see the COA

Effects

  • Effects felt: Pain Relief, Relaxed
  • Good for: Pain, Inflammation, Those On A Budget
  • Bad for: Those who want a premium quality oil

Our Review

I chose to give Plain Jane the benefit of the doubt, even after they had scored the lowest on our best CBG flower list. But to simply put it, they scored lower again in the criteria for lab test results, flavor, packaging, and effectiveness.

Insufficient lab results. Plain Jane CBG oil lacked thorough testing, as it was only tested for cannabinoid levels. There was no testing for any pesticides, residual solvents, or heavy metals. This poses a question as to why none of these were calculated, and creates a space of confusion for me while looking a little shady. Is there something that they are trying to hide or avoid? Transparency is key in making consumers feel secure that a product is safe enough to consume, but in my opinion, Plain Jane does not give me that security and instantly raises flags.

Pain relief. The only positive thing I have to say about this product is that it mitigated the soreness I had in my body from working out at the gym. I took about 2 milliliters at first, or 68mg CBG. I waited an hour and felt that it only subsided a little bit, so I took another milliliter to complete my dose to 102mg of CBG. But in all honesty, there just isn’t enough quality for me to recommend this product. But, you can’t win ‘em all!

How We Tested the Best CBG Oils

Comparison of the best CBG oils
After weeks of first-hand testing, we narrowed down our favorite picks for the best CBG oil products. Photo: Zola Costa / CBD Oracle

We examined over 38 different hemp companies across the market and their CBG oil products before filing it down to a more concise list of eight. These products were then further selected based on the company’s integrity, transparency with lab testing, and online reputation with customer feedback. Once this list was finalized, the products were directly sent to me and were ready for testing.

During the time of testing, there was no set time when I consumed the products, only when I felt physical or mental symptoms from pain, inflammation, anxiety or stress. I also used CBG oil as a post physical activity recovery supplement when I was feeling sore and fatigued. Due to my higher tolerance level, I tried to keep my dosage level in between 50-70mg. I did however test a few products slightly above that range, due to symptoms coming on a bit stronger.

I also considered and recorded how I felt physically and mentally before and after consumption, while making notes of flavor profiles and if there were any signs of hemp taste or aftertaste.

The criteria and numerical scoring used for this list were adopted from CBD Oracle and focused on the effectiveness and flavor of each product, the packaging, and the testing results for potency, pesticides, solvents, and heavy metals. These criteria sections had the potential to score 1-10 points, for a total of 40 points. There was also a certifications section, to which products could score half a point each for being USDA Organic, US Hemp Authority, and/or GMP certified.

Finding the Best CBG Oil Products

CBG is a cannabinoid that’s gaining popularity for its therapeutic benefits. While there aren’t loads of CBG products available on the market right now, we’ve reviewed and ranked some of the best CBG oils you order online.

CBG oil can be effective for mitigating physical symptoms of pain and eliminating mental symptoms of anxiety, stress, and brain fog. If you’re looking for high-quality CBG oil products, we recommend tinctures with a 1:1 CBD + CBG ratio or tinctures with a pure isolated CBG. Full-spectrum extracts are always preferred unless you want to avoid THC completely.

Also, make sure you’re getting an adequate dosage of CBG per serving – some companies label their tinctures as “CBG oil” but only contain small amounts of CBG per dose.
