How We Tested the HHC Tinctures

Comparing a variety of popular HHC tincture products

So, how did we go about picking these six top brands? Trust us, the process wasn’t easy.

First, we started by looking at the top 20 most popular HHC brands available. To narrow the list down — and decide which were worth it and which ones weren’t — our team crafted strict criteria that these HHC brands had to follow. If they didn’t follow this criterion, they were out of the running. Here’s what we asked ourselves when analyzing:

  • Quality – On a scale of 1-10, how well-made is the product? Ask yourself questions like, is the tincture in cheap packaging? Do they use high-quality ingredients or sketchy additives? How are the texture and consistency of the product itself?
  • Flavor – On a scale of 1-10, how palatable was the tincture? Did it produce mild, neutral flavors, or was it obviously herbal and plant-like? Did it leave residual notes in the mouth? Or, was it pleasant and easy to consume?
  • Functionality – On a scale of 1-10, how well did the product work? Did it produce potent, noticeable effects? Were the effects long-lasting? Were the effects distinct?
  • Company Transparency – On a scale of 1-10, how transparent is the company? Do they have their COAs easily available? Are their COAs detailed, accurate, and up to date? Do they have other information, such as extraction techniques and product sourcing, available to read?

After asking these questions, if a brand didn’t score at least an average of 7.5, they did not make it on our list. Once we had our favorite six, we simply took a look at the major strengths of each brand and made our decisions from there. Learn more about our testing methodology here.

Guide to Buying the Best HHC Tinctures

Using HHC oil to calm anxiety and stress

Quickly, let’s answer some of your biggest questions surrounding HHC and HHC oil.

What Is an HHC Tincture?

An HHC tincture, or HHC oil, is an oil or alcohol-based tincture full of hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) extract. HHC is a semi-synthetic cannabinoid that’s made using a process called hydrogenation.

How Are HHC Tinctures Made?

In order to get HHC oil, professionals first have to take the hemp plant itself and extract CBD from it. Then, they take the CBD and extract delta-8 THC compounds. From there, experts will utilize the THC compound and combine it with hydrogen molecules — hydrogenation. After this occurs, they are left with a new cannabinoid: HHC.

After this, professionals will then combine the HHC with an oil or alcohol-based extract (and potentially add additional components like all-natural terpenes) to create the tincture itself.

What Are the Effects of HHC Tinctures?

The effects of HHC tinctures will vary from person to person; however, most people find that HHC is great for inducing creativity and providing a boost in energy. Many consumers refer to the cannabinoid as a “super sativa,” meaning it’s very uplifting and great for those who may be feeling down or unmotivated.

The general psychoactivity levels of HHC are low compared to delta-9 THC, but they’re still present and will get you high. You can compare HHC’s potency to that of delta-8 THC

What Is the Strongest HHC Tincture?

The strongest HHC tincture on this list comes from Highly Concentr8ed. As their name suggests, their HHC tincture is incredibly highly concentrated at a whopping 5,000 mg. So, only the most experienced consumers or those with very high tolerances should try this extra-strong tincture.

How to Make Your Own Tinctures at Home

There are a few ways you can make your own tincture at home. But, we’ll quickly explain the most popular method. You’re going to need the following ingredients:

  • Anywhere from an eighth to a half ounce of decarboxylated cannabis flower
  • About 3-12 fl oz of either food-grade ethanol, a carrier oil, or glycerin
  • Mason jars
  • Cheesecloth or something similar
  • A 1mL glass bottle with a dropper cap

To make your tincture, you have to make sure your cannabis flower is already decarbed (learn how to decarb weed). This means that it has been heat-activated, typically in the oven. After you’ve done this, take your mason jar and fill it with the alcohol or carrier oil you chose as a base. Then, add in your broken-up, decarbed flower. For ratio references, 3 fluid ounces to one-eighth of cannabis creates a more mild dose; to increase the potency, either lower the base by ⅓ or increase the flower amount by ⅓.

Make sure your flower is totally submerged, and then mix it well. Next, you’re going to leave your mixture alone for at least four weeks (patience is key) in a cool, dry place. Once a day, make sure to stir or shake your liquid.

Finally, once the tincture has been fully infused, you’re going to use your cheesecloth or other filters to filter out all the plant material in your tincture. Then, fill your bottle with your tincture and you’re ready to enjoy.

Are HHC Tinctures Legal to Buy Online?

Yes, HHC tinctures are legal to buy online and in local CBD or vape stores. HHC is a legal cannabinoid as long as it comes from hemp and doesn’t contain more than 0.3% delta 9 THC.

Unfortunately, some states have created bans on HHC, making it illegal in some areas. So, always double-check the cannabis laws in your area before purchasing one like HHC.

Final Thoughts

Even though HHC tinctures are still somewhat new on the market, the competition is tight, and you do have various incredible brands to choose from. But, no matter what, when you’re shopping for products like HHC, you have to take the time to be as thorough as we were: check for COAs, double-check ingredients, read about the brand’s reputation, and so forth. Then, you can be absolutely sure that you’re buying the best of the best HHC tinctures. (Or, you can skip all that and stick to one of the amazing brands on our top six list.) The choice is yours.
