Kiva Confections is a well respected member of the cannabis community with a track record of making delicious and effective cannabis edible products such as Kiva Camino, Kiva Petra, and Lost Farm. They started out selling THC-infused chocolate back in 2010, but have since expanded their product line to include the highly portable and convenient Terra Bites, which come in four different flavors – like CBD almond and chocolate-covered blueberries – in addition to the occasional seasonal flavor. Most of the flavors are THC-only except for the CBD almonds, but Kiva has hinted at more CBD-focused products down the line.
Kiva has won many awards for their geniously formulated Terra Bites. This product comes in a sleek black hard case tin, and is pretty easy to open compared to many other child proof products. Each variety of Terra Bites contains 20 bite-sized pieces of chocolate-covered yumminess, from blueberries, to caramel and almonds. The pieces of chocolate are small yet perfect for a hit of sweetness. Three out of the four flavors contain only THC, but their CBD almond variety has 5mg CBD and only 1mg THC per serving.
TL;DR – Kiva’s Terra Bites are perfect for the surreptitious stoner, coming in an Altoid-like tin and filled with pop-able chocolate covered goodies – just don’t eat too many!
I tried products using both milk chocolate and dark chocolate, and I would have to say I prefer dark. Although I usually prefer dark chocolate, I like it more in this case because I feel it masks the cannabis taste a little bit better. The effects are desirable and pretty much what you would expect from a low-dose high. The only real critical thing I have to say about them is that the cannabis taste is very detectable and slightly off-putting, at least to me.
The CBD Almond flavor is near perfection! You can’t go wrong with creamy dark chocolate and crunchy roasted almonds, plus a balanced ratio of 5mg CBD and 1mg THC per bite.
Milk Chocolate Covered Blueberries
Kiva’s cannabis-infused chocolate covered blueberries are their newest addition to the Terra Bites lineup. Sweet milk chocolate melds together with slightly chewy and tart dried blueberries, with 5mg THC in each bite. Kiva uses cold water hash in all of their chocolate products, which is debatably the cleanest and most effective – albeit expensive – form of extraction. This could explain the whopping $1.10 cost per dose, and by dose we mean one tiny chocolate covered blueberry.
I’m a huge fan of chocolate covered fruit, and think these cannabis-infused blueberries make for an interesting and unique product offering. Unfortunately the cannabis taste is a little too forward for me, and is kind of transporting me back to my college days making questionable edibles and getting too high from them. This stronger taste could be due to the use of hash versus flower, but not totally sure. Kiva recommends waiting at least 2 hours before increasing your dose, which is kind of pain when there are other products on the market with a faster activation time. Kiva is a trusted brand, so I still think this product is valuable to many, just be aware if you have a sensitivity to tasting cannabis in your edibles. The effects of the chocolate covered blueberries made me wish I was socializing with a group of friends, and that’s saying a lot from this home body.
The CBD Chocolate Covered Almonds are the only CBD-rich item in the Terra Bites product line. I certainly hope this changes soon, since I loved the effects of a 5:1 CBD to THC ratio. The flavor is absolutely divine – rich, smooth dark chocolate and crunchy roasted almonds are a timeless combo, made even better by a cannabis infusion.
It’s hard to know where to start, I was so fond of this product. For one, the chocolate covered almonds taste amazing. This is made even better by the fact that there’s a lower dosage of THC, which means you can eat more of them without worrying about the after effects! The dosage of the THC-only flavors in the Terra Bites lineup is 5mg per piece, which means one or two too many could lead to a bad high, leaving little room for error. While there is still a faint taste of cannabis, it’s by no means as prevalent as the milk chocolate flavors. The almonds are shiny due to the use of confectioner’s glaze, so sorry vegans, you can’t enjoy these.
Salty and sweet is a dangerous combination for a cannabis edible because it tastes so good! This flavor of Terra Bites combines rich milk chocolate with buttery, salty caramel. Each piece has 5mg of THC. I particularly like the combination of CBD and THC together so in my eyes, this product could have benefited from a different ratio.
I’m a huge fan of salted caramel, and for the most part, Kiva knocks it out of the park with their cannabis-infused milk chocolate covered sea salt caramels. Each bite and dose contains 5mg THC, which is good for those of you without sweet tooths. If you are like me and crave chocolate regularly, it’s going to be difficult to restrain yourself for the perfect dose. Since these Terra Bites are edibles, they can take up to two hours to take effect, meaning it might take a lot of trial and error to figure out your ideal dose. The first three seconds after taking a bite are pure bliss, but then a hint of cannabis taste creeps up on you. Make sure to have a drink nearby to get the taste out of your mouth if you’re sensitive to it like I am. Once you get over the aftertaste, the high is pretty enjoyable – makes you want to hang out with friends doing something fun!
