With alcohol now less popular than ever, hemp-derived THC drinks are filling the gap. They offer a fast-acting and manageable hit of THC in a convenient format, letting you maintain the “social drinking” vibe with a safer and lower-calorie beverage.

But growing and under-regulated markets always attract people looking for a quick payday, and consumers can’t be confident in what they’re buying unless they scour lab reports and look into each company.

That’s why we’re here. We’ve used our expert-backed Cannabinoid Product Quality Evaluation framework to score the options and help you find the best THC drinks out there.

What makes a THC drink effective?

Other Cannabinoids Are Helpful

While THC is the main event, other cannabinoids can round out the effects and give you a more enjoyable experience overall. This wasn’t a strict requirement, but it’s a bonus.

Accurate Dosing

More so than with ordinary edibles, dosages for beverages have to be accurate. If you’re trying to keep a pleasant buzz through a session, you have to be confident about what’s in each can.

Reasonable THC Dose

Although you need more than 2 mg to realistically feel something, the Hemp Beverage Alliance recommends no more than 10 mg per container. We applied this limit to this list. If you need more, you can drink two. But if you drink too much, there’s nothing you can do.

From a starting point of 102 THC drinks, we used our product quality evaluation framework and first-hand testing to find the seven best options.

Kentucky-based Cornbread Hemp has been raising the bar for the industry for years. Their Raspberry Limeade THC Seltzer is the only drink in this list to score over 90% on our framework.

The reason is simple: they take USDA-certified organic hemp, cleanly extract the THC from the cannabinoid-rich flowers and put everything together in a GMP-certified manufacturing facility, controlling the process from seed to sale. The result is a safe, effective and delicious THC seltzer.

It isn’t perfect: it’s just THC rather than full spectrum, and they add more sugar than some competing brands, but it’s hard to fault too much.

Whether you choose the 5 mg or 10 mg version, the seltzer does just what you’re looking for with no nasty surprises.

  • USDA organic hemp
  • 5 and 10 mg potency options
  • Low-calorie
  • Clean, light flavor
  • Flower-only extract
  • They control the process from seed to sale
  • Isolate – no other cannabinoids
  • A little expensive
  • Cane sugar added

Cycling Frog is a drink-focused hemp brand from the people at Lazarus Naturals. They use the same farm, which means they’re another one of the few hemp drink brands to use USDA certified organic hemp.

The cannabinoids are cold ethanol extracted and nano-emulsified for use in the drinks. The mix also includes CBD alongside the THC, with their lab report showing some CBN too, which helps balance out the experience compared to isolated THC.

There are 5 mg and 10 mg potency options, making it easier to feel something if you’re THC-tolerant. There are also seven seltzer flavors (and a margarita option) to choose from, with excellent flavor on the Wild Cherry one we tried.

  • USDA certified organic hemp
  • 5 mg and 10 mg potency options
  • Also contains CBD
  • Eight flavor options
  • Good price per mg
  • Great flavor
  • Pretty high in sugar
  • Not true full spectrum

We praise Aspen Green a lot. But it’s for good reason.

They use USDA certified organic hemp and organic ingredients throughout, they always full panel test their products and they work with medical professionals to develop their products.

This is their first THC drink, and they’ve done an excellent job with the Amalfi Spritz. The drink comes with either 5 or 10 mg of THC, but it is an isolate, so there are no beneficial synergies between cannabinoids and terpenes.

However, Amalfi Spritz tastes great and gets the job done when it comes to effects. They use real fruit purees and concentrates for flavor, and combine the THC with ashwagandha, L-theanine and magnesium to round out the effects.

  • USDA organic ingredients
  • 5 and 10 mg THC options
  • Natural fruit flavors
  • Physician-formulated
  • Flower-only extract
  • Top-quality manufacturing
  • Quite high price
  • A lot of added sugar
  • Contains unregulated supplements

Stoner legends Cheech and Chong beat out of a lot of competition with their THC infused seltzers, available in five flavors and all packing 5 mg of THC per can.

While this is the first entry in this list which isn’t USDA-certified organic, it’s completely vegan and contains zero calories per serving.

With most THC drinks advertising themselves as a lower-calorie option than alcohol, the complete lack of added sugar in these seltzers put them a step above most brands.

The drinks are THC isolate, so there are no other cannabinoids or terpenes to round out the experience, but the pure 5 mg THC does hit the spot on its own. The good price is just the icing on the cake.

  • Five flavors to choose from
  • 5 mg THC per can
  • Zero calories, no added sugar
  • Good price per mg THC
  • Clean, simple flavor
  • No other cannabinoids
  • No potency options

High Rise Beverage Co. has quickly become a well-known name in the hemp drink space over their three years in business.

Offering ranges of THC seltzers in 3 mg, 5 mg or 10 mg THC strengths, the South Carolina company has something to suit most tastes.

For the 10 mg seltzers – perfect for people with some tolerance to THC – there are four flavor options, and each makes use of natural fruit flavors.

High Rise’s drinks also include CBD, and while they’re not “full spectrum” in the traditional sense – more like “multi-isolates” – they offer a more rounded experience than a single isolated cannabinoid. With a great price per mg to top it off, they’re definitely worth trying out.

  • Three potency choices: 3 mg, 5 mg or 10 mg
  • Low-calorie
  • Real fruit flavors
  • Good CBD:THC ratio
  • Great price
  • Not full spectrum
  • Not too transparent about sourcing

Drinkin’ Buds is the brainchild of two Wisconsin hemp farmers looking for something unique to do with their crop. They have six different cocktails available, in either 5 or 10 mg of THC.

While THC drinks themselves aren’t unique, their choice to always keep the THC and CBD balanced sets them apart from the competition.

It brings consistency in a different way to most brands, with even the stronger versions having more CBD to take the edge off.

While they do contain added sugars, the calories are low across the board – the Margarita tops the pack at just 30 calories per can.

They’re on the expensive side, but the well-executed flavors and balanced effects make them more than worth it.

  • Six cocktails to choose from
  • 5 or 10 mg THC available
  • Low calorie
  • Always 1:1 CBD:THC
  • Natural fruit flavors

While industry legend cbdMD does offer some ready-to-drink social tonics, their Delta-9 THC Drink Mixer makes this list because it’s so much more flexible than most options out there.

First off, it’s true full spectrum, containing CBG, CBC and CBD in addition to THC, which sets it apart from most THC beverages right away.

But the best thing about the Drink Mixer is how flexible it is. You aren’t stuck with a seltzer or cocktail formulation – you can add it to pretty much anything.

It’s available in two flavors – black cherry and unflavored – so it can work with any type of drink. The only downside is that the THC was likely converted, with a small amount of delta-8 in addition to the delta-9.

  • Full spectrum: CBD, CBG and CBC with THCs
  • Flexible use – add to any drink
  • Easily adjustable dose: 3 mg THC per ml added
  • Excellent price per mg THC
  • Natural flavors
  • Zero calories
  • THC likely produced through conversion
  • No terpenes present

Other THC Drinks We Considered

Our initial list contained 102 hemp-derived THC drinks from different brands, but the vast majority of these weren’t shortlisted for inclusion in the final list. We use key criteria from our Cannabinoid Product Evaluation Framework to narrow down the possibilities:

  • No recent lab report: 10 products were discounted because they either weren’t supported by a lab report at all or the lab report was over a year old. While products are probably still safe after a year, the potency will likely have degraded in storage.
  • Unconfirmed lab report: 12 products were lab tested, but the lab test either didn’t include a QR code for confirmation (4 cases) or there was some problem with the QR code (8 cases). Only 4 appeared to have been altered, but all 12 could not be confirmed to be accurate.
  • Not safety tested: 36 products didn’t have “full panel” safety tests. That is, they were not tested for heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, microbial contamination or mycotoxins. While they were probably safe, there was no way to confirm that.
  • Inaccurate dosage: 15 products didn’t have an accurate dosage on their most recent lab report. For higher-dose products, we look for accuracy within 10%, but this widens to 20% for 5 mg and below. In another 9 cases, doses were accurate for the most recent COA but not consistent between reports.

Accounting for some products that had multiple identified issues, this left 24 products to be scored. Of these, only 7 scored over 80% and earned our recommendation.

Some notable brands that qualified but scored under 80% are: Cann, Wunder, Nowadays, Wyld, Boldt, and Rebel Rabbit.

Methodology

Expert insights: We used insights from experts we’ve interviewed in the past and two we interviewed specifically about issues related to beverages to help us create the initial product list. We also reviewed guidelines from the Hemp Beverage Alliance.

Market research: We used our automated search algorithm to analyze the top 150 results from DuckDuckGo searches for “THC drinks” and “THC beverages,” with additional search terms to remove third-party lists of products. We scraped the text from the results, and from relevant internal links (e.g. other product pages or collections of products), and then used AI to extract up to two qualifying products from each domain. The results were checked manually and one product per brand was compiled into a spreadsheet.

Analysis: We went through the process described above to choose 24 shortlisted products from the initial list of 102. The 24 products were then scored in full based on our framework. Products scoring over 80% made the final list.

First-hand testing: These products were tested first-hand by members of the CBD Oracle team for final ranking.

Expert Advice: How to Choose a THC Drink

Our recommendations above are the best option if you just want to quickly find yourself some good hemp THC beverages. But what about if you’re looking for yourself? What do you need to know before you hit “buy”?

We also spoke to Professor Alejandro Marangoni, Canada Research Chair for Food, Health and Aging at the University of Guelph, and Kyle Marinkovich, founder and CEO of Northern Diversified Solutions, about the issues.

Emulsification and Speed of Onset

You’ve probably noticed that cannabis drinks take effect much quicker than edibles. The average onset time is about 15 minutes compared to more like an hour for a traditional edible. The reason for this comes down to the emulsification technology used – how brands get fat-soluble cannabinoids into a water-based beverage.

Kyle Marinkovich explained:

A brownie or gummy has to go through digestion before cannabinoids are absorbed. A beverage emulsion disperses cannabinoids into much smaller particles, making them more bioavailable and allowing the body to absorb them faster, closer to alcohol absorption than food. Our emulsions are engineered for consistent, fast onset.

There are lots of competing methods for how to make this happen, but the most common is “nano” emulsification. However, Kyle was quick to point out that there isn’t a clearly “better” option that you should always look out for:

There isn’t a single best method; it depends on the beverage. Some formulations require clarity, others need flavor neutrality, or a specific absorption profile. Nano-emulsions are common because of their particle size and fast absorption, but micro-emulsions and other food-grade dispersion systems can also be effective. Because of our Field to Formula™ process, we can match the emulsion type to the brand’s goals, while ensuring compliance and full traceability from plant to finished product.

How Particle Size Affects Absorption

The crucial thing to know is that some type of emulsification is needed regardless of the drink. Any brand should have thought about this issue. The details can get complex, but the headline is that “smaller droplets are absorbed easier.”

Professor Marangoni wrote a paper on these exact issues, and gave us more details:

Small structures, in the range ~100-300 nm are generally absorbed more readily, if they remain intact in the GI tract (this is not guaranteed).  If below 100nm, they could traverse the epithelial membranes of the mouth (sublingual) and stomach and go directly through the portal vein into circulation. So, the effect would be felt rapidly, which is a challenge.

However, in his paper, Dr. Marangoni points out that stability is an issue with emulsions, and argues that encapsulation-based strategies are superior. He told us that, “Emulsions are inherently unstable, so liposomes would offer greater long term stability.”

Cannabinoids and Terpenes: What to Look for in Your Beverage

As Drs. Erin Walsh and Tanja Bagar pointed out when we spoke to them about THC gummies, it would be a mistake to just focus on THC. Other cannabinoids, especially CBD, CBG, and CBC, can help mitigate some of the negative effects of THC. They give a more rounded experience.

If you shop around for beverages, you’ll notice that a lot of products just focus on THC – and that’s OK for a lot of us – but ones that offer a range of cannabinoids are better.

Terpenes are a different matter. These are the aromatic compounds that create the characteristic smell of cannabis. Most THC drinks don’t contain terpenes in detectable amounts. Instead, they boast about not having an earthy or “weedy” flavor.

We wondered if this was to do with a technical limitation. However, Kyle Marinkovich explained that:

That’s usually a choice, not a technical limitation. Terpenes can be included in emulsions, but they often add bitterness or aroma complexity that many brands don’t want in a clean-tasting seltzer or cocktail. Most beverage companies choose a neutral base so their flavors shine through. When brands do want cannabis character or functional effects, we have the flexibility to build terpene-inclusive emulsions.

This is why most THC drinks aren’t “full spectrum” in the same sense as a gummy or oil might be. They are more like collections of isolates than genuine “natural” extracts from the plant.

There is a downside to this – missing out on the entourage effect – but the result is a more palatable and enjoyable beverage.

The Gold Standard for THC Drinks

From his experience at Northern Diversified Solutions, Kyle Marinkovich told us the three metrics he’d use to determine the quality of a hemp beverage:

Potency and dose accuracy, stability and shelf life, and flavor neutrality. Those three show whether a beverage is truly consumer-ready. Traceability underpins all of it. Without documented chain of custody, you can’t prove compliance or guarantee consistency. That’s why NDS is vertically integrated: we manage every step of the supply chain to ensure brands get safe, reliable, and compliant inputs.

We used the Hemp Beverage Alliance suggestion of a maximum of 10 mg of THC per drink. We also confirmed dosage accuracy by checking the COAs of products we considered.

We’d strongly recommend doing this yourself if you’ll be shopping around for hemp beverages. For flavor neutrality, the best advice is to look at user reviews: someone will always be complaining if there’s a weed-y taste to a drink.

The Bottom Line

The key things you should check if you’re shopping for THC drinks are:

  • Emulsification: Brands usually don’t describe this explicitly, but it should say “quick onset”, “fast acting” or something similar.
  • Dosage: Between 3 and 10 mg of THC is ideal, and other cannabinoids are a bonus. Ideally, check multiple COAs to confirm consistent results.
  • Lab report/COA: Check it was full panel safety tested, and compare the measured dosage with the brand’s claim.
  • Taste: Reviews should confirm that the product tastes as advertised. Avoid terpene-rich options unless you know you like it.
