Over 50 million Americans experience chronic pain each year, so it’s no surprise that it’s one of the most common reasons people turn to CBD. However, the patchwork of regulation on CBD and hemp products has made choosing a product a minefield. For every reputable company putting out safe and effective products, another simply re-packages CBD made by someone else and cares more about sales than safety.
This is why we worked with experts to devise our Cannabinoid Product Quality Standards framework. We applied the objective standards to CBD gummies marketed for pain, and this is what we found.
What makes a CBD gummy effective for pain?
Full spectrum is best
While CBD does seem to have some benefits for pain, the evidence for pain relief from THC is stronger.
Other cannabinoids are important
Other cannabinoids like CBG in the mix can also boost effectiveness, through the “entourage effect.” Just THC and CBD would still be OK, but products with a full or a broad spectrum of cannabinoids are even better.
The right terpenes
Terpenes add to the effects of cannabis products just like the minor cannabinoids do. For pain, myrcene, beta-caryophyllene and linalool are known to have anti-inflammatory or pain-relieving qualities.
Other pain relievers
While there is a risk with any unregulated supplement, ingredients like turmeric which are likely to relieve pain were seen as a positive addition, on balance.
From an initial list of 86 CBD gummies marketed for pain, we used our product quality standards framework, first-hand testing and independent lab analyses to find the five best.

When you grow USDA organic hemp in Colorado – one of the best states for hemp cultivation – extract the cannabinoids with CO2, and make your product in a cGMP and FDA-registered facility, you’re bound to impress us. Aspen Green ticks all of these boxes and more.
Their Relief Organic Full Spectrum Gummies combine a sizable dose of CBD with a little THC and smaller amounts of CBG and CBC to produce the ideal pain-relieving gummy.
They also incorporate turmeric extract, which has proven anti-inflammatory properties, along with black pepper to help you absorb it.
It is a little expensive, and the lab test didn’t find terpenes, but overall it’s probably the best CBD pain gummy on the market.
- USDA organic hemp
- Full spectrum of cannabinoids: CBD, THC, CBC and CBG
- Turmeric to boost anti-inflammatory effect
- Top tier manufacturing
- Potent – 50 mg CBD per gummy
- Vegan

Medterra is one of the most well-known brands in the industry, and their reputation was truly earned.
They don’t have USDA certified organic hemp like some of their competitors, but they do a great job when it comes to manufacturing quality and trustworthiness.
Their Max Relief gummies are true full spectrum, containing substantial doses of minor cannabinoids like CBG, CBN and CBT in addition to CBD and THC. This helps them remain effective for pain, even though they don’t include other pain relievers or any terpenes at detectable levels.
The biggest downside to the gummies is the price, which is a little on the high side. But they’re high-quality gummies and worked well in testing.
- Full spectrum: CBD, THC, CBG, CBN and CBT
- Good doses of minor cannabinoids
- US Hemp Authority Certified – excellent manufacturing
- Effective for pain relief
- Free from unregulated supplements
- Vegan
- Other ingredients are organic
- No detectable terpenes
- Quite expensive

R&R is another company which regularly finds itself on these lists thanks to their dedication to quality and transparency about key issues. R&R’s products are made with USDA certified organic hemp and they work with medical professionals to find the right mixture of ingredients for each product.
While the amount of THC in these gummies is pretty small – about 0.3 mg per gummy – the 5 mg of CBG is a great choice for pain relief. They also contain CBC, CBDV and CBN, making them a genuinely full spectrum offering.
They don’t have terpenes, but they do incorporate Boswellia and Devil’s Claw to boost their pain relieving effects. There’s room for improvement, but the quality is hard to beat.
- USDA organic hemp
- Full spectrum: CBD, THC, CBG, CBC, CBN, CBDV
- Potent: 45 mg CBD per gummy
- Boswellia is anti-inflammatory
- 5 mg CBG for anti-inflammatory effect

Cornbread Hemp Watermelon CBD Gummies

- CBD Type: Full spectrum
- Potency: 50 mg CBD, 2 mg THC
- CBD:THC Ratio: 25:1
- Terpenes: None detected
- Price: $74.99 for 30 gummies/1,500 mg CBD ($0.050 per mg CBD)
- Coupon: “LADY” for 30% off
Cornbread Hemp uses USDA organic hemp grown in the Bluegrass Basin, Kentucky, and takes its extracts from the cannabinoid-rich flowers of the plant in a GMP certified facility. The result is a consistently excellent product line-up, and their standard CBD Gummies are no exception.
The gummies also contain CBC and CBDV in addition to the THC and CBD, with about 2.5 mg of CBC in each gummy too. The downside if you’re using these for pain is that they’re not explicitly created for chronic pain, which means they don’t include other ingredients to boost pain relief, and they’re missing CBG.
But if you’re looking for a straightforward, high-quality full spectrum CBD gummy that isn’t too expensive, it’s a solid option.
- USDA organic hemp
- Full spectrum: CBD, THC, CBC and CBDV
- Three potency options: 25, 50 or 100 mg per gummy
- Flower-only extract
- No unregulated supplements
- High quality manufacturing
- No detectable terpenes
- Not tailored for pain relief
Premium Jane CBD Gummies

- CBD Type: Broad spectrum
- Potency: 25 mg CBD
- CBD:THC Ratio: THC-free
- Terpenes: Menthol
- Price: $95 for 60 gummies / 1,500 mg CBD ($0.063 per mg CBD)
- Coupon: “erica” for 25% off
Premium Jane has the only broad spectrum CBD pain gummy that scored well enough on our framework to make this list. The gummies offer a moderate CBD dose, but also include about 3 mg of CBG per serving and smaller amounts of CBN and CBDV.
This broad spectrum mix is a great choice for pain relief, with both CBD and CBG offering anti-inflammatory effects in particular. While the only terpene detected is menthol (aka hexahydrothymol, apparently), the overall blend is pretty good for inflammatory pain.
Although it doesn’t have USDA certification, the hemp used in Premium Jane’s products is organically grown, and is also taken from a single strain. The price is a little high, though.
- Broad spectrum: CBD, CBG, CBN and CBDV
- Lab confirmed THC free
- Organically grown US hemp
- CBG for anti-inflammatory effect
- Single strain hemp
- Vegan
- A little expensive
- Only a moderate dose
- Not USDA organic
Other CBD Gummies We Considered
From our initial list of 86 full and broad-spectrum CBD gummies marketed for pain (or otherwise suggested by the brand), we ruled out all but 10 gummies based on key criteria from our Cannabinoid Product Quality Standards framework.
The most common issues were:
- Not safety tested: 30 products were not “full panel” safety tested. This means the product did not have safety tests for heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, microbial contamination and mycotoxins. Some of these were partially safety tested, but most were not safety tested at all. This is crucial for any hemp product.
- No recent COA: 19 products had a certificate of analysis (COA) available, but it was more than a year old. Another 7 didn’t have a lab report available at all. Although CBD products have a longer shelf life than 1 year, it’s unlikely the potency will be maintained for that long. Companies should lab test with each new batch, or at least re-test once a year.
- No terpene test: 26 products claimed to be full or broad spectrum but were not tested for terpenes. In gummies, terpenes may not be detected at ordinary testing thresholds. However, with no test, it’s impossible to confirm that something is full spectrum. Additionally, with no terpene test it’s difficult to tell how suitable a product is for pain relief.
Out of the qualifying products, Five, Vena, Sunmed, Galaxy Treats, and Elixinol didn’t score 80% or more on our framework. These are all great CBD gummies for pain, but a high score on our framework requires both transparency and quality. Most of these brands were unclear about some key areas for scoring.
Methodology
- Expert insight: We spoke to experts in both cannabinoids and pain to determine some key factors for an effective CBD product for pain. In this case, the criteria were based on previous interviews focused on CBD products for pain relief.
- Market research: We performed automated online searches for “CBD gummies for pain” and “CBD gummies” to identify products. This was completed using an Oracle-coded algorithm, which pulls 150 search results (from DuckDuckGo), collects the URL along with any possibly matching internal URLs, and then obtains two suggestions for each brand by prompting ChatGPT with the scraped text and key criteria. These suggestions are manually checked and compiled into a spreadsheet.
- Qualifying and scoring: COAs were collected for each product, and checked for key criteria. Qualifying products require a recent COA, with full panel safety testing, at least four cannabinoids (excluding isolates), a QR code for verification and test results for terpenes. Qualifying products were then scored on our full framework.
- Ranking: Any products scoring over 80% on our framework were then ranked by the Oracle team for the final list.
