Various types of CBD products

For a long time, the CBD market was largely dominated by three main product types: CBD oils, capsules, and hemp flower. They were the staple diet for many looking to invest their health and wellness in hemp and its beneficial plant compounds. Fast-forward a couple of years and CBD’s popularity has skyrocketed. Many CBD brands have capitalized on the hype and produced countless delivery methods for you to purchase.

The problem here is, which delivery method do you choose? Which one suits your requirements the best? We’ve answered all your questions in our comprehensive guide to every CBD delivery method on the planet.

Summary:

  • Full-spectrum CBD is best for anxiety, insomnia, and pain while broad-spectrum CBD extract is good for the same but with zero-THC (slightly milder effects).
  • CBD isolate is best for those that want CBD for health and wellness, while staying all clear on drug tests.
  • CBD edibles are best for all types of symptoms (mild-to-severe) depending on strength – anxiety and insomnia to pain and inflammation (and everything in-between). Gradual release and long-lasting. Excellent flavors for sweet-toothed users.
  • CBD capsules are good for a range of symptoms, notably anxiety, pain, inflammation, and sleep. Slow-releasing, gradual, and effective.
  • CBD oils are best for anxiety, pain, inflammation, and sleep problems (with melatonin or other sleep-inducing ingredients). Easy-to-use and convenient, perfect for beginners. Variety of different flavors, strengths, and additional ingredients.
  • CBD vaping is best for immediate relief from moderate symptoms of anxiety, pain, inflammation, and other physiological problems. Great flavors. Reasonably long-lasting. Pre-filled CBD vape pens are better for beginners, while bulky vape rigs and kits are designed for intermediate and seasoned users.
  • Smoking CBD flower is great for a range of physiological issues, as well as physical and mental ailments (mild-to-severe). The most natural way to consume hemp-derived compounds. It’s very effective and provides immediate relief. Variety of different strains to choose from. Not suitable for beginners but amazing for users accustomed to smoking varieties of cannabis.
  • CBD concentrates are best for a variety of ailments ranging from chronic pain and inflammation to anxiety, stress, and sleep. Can be vaped or consumed orally/sublingually. The former is more immediate, while the latter is more gradual. CBD isolate powder carries only CBD and best-used for milder symptoms. CBD live resin or wax contains a fuller range of plant compounds for more severe symptoms.
  • CBD suppositories are best for rectal and vaginal pain and inflammation. Not a common way to use CBD but very effective, long-lasting.
  • CBD candles are best for very mild relaxation. Aromatically beneficial. Terpene-rich candles are the most effective. Good for bathtime or for those working from home.

What is CBD?

Before we start looking into all the different types of CBD delivery methods, I think it’s worth starting our journey looking at what CBD is — it’ll help you understand what I’m going to be talking about as we trek up the delivery method mountain.

CBD (cannabidiol) is one of roughly 150 natural chemical compounds (cannabinoids) present in varieties of cannabis. It’s also the second-most abundant cannabinoid behind THC.

Each experience with CBD is different from each other. Do you need help with sleep? Try a few drops of CBD oil or a hit on CBD wax. Require some physiological balance? Give a CBD edible a try. Got a few skin complaints or muscle pains? A CBD topical is very useful. You can even insert CBD using tampons and suppositories if you have internal pain and inflammation, or you need a nice bit of stimulation.

But it’s useful to know exactly which one to purchase before using these products. Lower back pain, for example, is best treated using a CBD patch to deliver targeted, localized relief to that area. Patches are very fast-acting and don’t require much effort to apply. A CBD oil may help here but it’s certainly not as effective.

All CBD is amazingly beneficial. We’re not saying it isn’t. It’s just so important for you not to waste your money on a product that isn’t 100% effective, which is why we’ve compiled this extensive list to help you find the most effective method for your specific needs.

Ingestibles

CBD ingestibles are products that enter your body orally and get absorbed through the digestive system. Ingestibles include edibles, capsules, beverages, and tablets. New and improved innovations over the past couple of years have seen the development of fresh, exciting CBD ingestibles including candies, mints, and CBD honeysticks, as well as beverage products such as CBD coffee, tea, and kombucha. You can even buy non-alcoholic CBD wine and beer.

CBD Edibles

CBD edibles are very popular, especially CBD gummies and chocolate. They are mostly sweet-flavored and very easy to consume. Edibles are a great alternative to flavorless CBD capsules or strong-tasting natural CBD oils. Beginners often consume edibles first before trying other, stronger products (high-strength oils or concentrates).

Edibles come in a large range of strengths and potencies. The downside to most CBD edibles is the sugar content which makes them not the healthiest option you can get. CBD edibles are generally best for people who need a dose on-the-go. Think stress or anxiety in office spaces, driving, or socializing outside (picnic to beach).

Below are the various types of CBD edibles available on the market.

1. CBD Candy

CBD candy is exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a delicious, fruity way of consuming cannabidiol. Discreet, convenient, and easy to digest. Made with hemp extract, gelatin or vegetable extract, sugar, corn syrup (sometimes), and other natural or artificial ingredients.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Range of different flavors to suit your tastes
  • Quick and easy to consume
  • No additional equipment needed
  • Sugar hit with CBD (good for short-term energy)

Cons:

  • Some carry artificial flavorings
  • Can melt in the heat
  • Can be much pricier than regular candy
  • High sugar content (not the healthiest)
  • No immediate effects

How to consume:

Pop one in your mouth, chew, swallow. Simple as that. No need to chase it with water. Wait 30-60 minutes for the CBD to absorb into your system.

Who is it for?

CBD candy is a good alternative to naturally-flavored CBD oils. The sweet and fruity composition masks the flavor of natural hemp extract. Sweet-toothed individuals will benefit here.

How can it help you?

Most CBD candy is mild-to-moderate strength (10-25mg per candy). Good for:

  • Mild stress
  • Mild pain and inflammation relief
  • Relaxation (paired with CBD capsules)
  • General health and wellness

How is it made?

CBD candy is made with hemp extract, corn syrup, sugar, water, and flavoring. Very simple ingredients. Most are vegan friendly, though watch out for gelatin in soft chew CBD candy — vegan-friendly alternative is a vegetable extract.

CBD candy product variations:

  • CBD soft chew candy
  • CBD lollipops
  • CBD gumdrops
  • CBD honeysticks

For best CBD candy quality, look for:

  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Vegan-friendly ingredients
  • No added sugar
  • Natural flavorings
  • CBD content (10-30mg/dose is optimal for beginners)

2. CBD Gummies

CBD gummies are the most popular edibles on the market. Anyone ranging from beginner users to seasoned enthusiasts will have these in their cannabis toolkit. Incredibly tasty, very discreet, and easy as hell to consume. No need for any additional equipment. Looks, tastes, and smells just like regular candy too.

Gummies are typically made from high-quality CBD hemp extract or high-THC marijuana extract if you live in a legalized state and require an extra buzz. Other ingredients include sugar and natural/artificial flavorings. The main benefit of CBD gummies is they’re slow-releasing. Great for a gradual dose throughout the day, especially if you’re busy or forgetful.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Large range of strengths and potencies
  • Many product variants and flavors
  • Tasty, easy to consume
  • Slow-releasing (good for a gradual hit of CBD)

Cons:

  • Not as strong as CBD oils or capsules
  • Can cause stomach discomforts
  • Too easy to consume — can be tempting to go over your daily dosage
  • Not good if you need immediate relief
  • Some use gelatin (not vegan-friendly)

How to consume:

Put one or two in your mouth, chew, swallow. Simple as that.

Who is it for?

CBD gummies are sweet, fruity, and delicious. Great alternative to naturally-flavored CBD oils. They’re also a good alternative to flavorless CBD capsules. Sweet-toothed users will enjoy the various flavor variants. We recommend CBD gummies to beginners looking to enjoy the power of CBD.

How can CBD gummies help you?

Mild-to-moderate strength (10-25 mg) CBD gummies are good for:

  • Mild-to-moderate anxiety
  • Mild pain symptoms
  • Moderate inflammation
  • Relaxation
  • General health and wellness

High or ultra-strength (40-60+ mg) CBD gummies are great for:

  • More severe anxiety and depression
  • Pain, pain-related issues, and inflammation
  • Sleep and insomnia (full-spectrum hemp extract + melatonin infusion)
  • Full-body relaxation
  • General health and wellness

How is it made?

CBD gummies are made with hemp extract infused into a number of ingredients: gelatin (not vegan) or vegetable extract (vegan), sugar, and flavorings. Some include melatonin for improved sleep and insomnia symptoms.

CBD gummy product variations:

  • CBD gummy bears
  • CBD gummy frogs
  • CBD gummies with melatonin
  • CBD gummies with caffeine

For best CBD gummies quality, look for:

  • Vegan-friendly ingredients
  • Broad-spectrum or full-spectrum hemp extract
  • High terpene profile
  • Large range of cannabinoids
  • No added sugar
  • Natural flavorings

3. CBD Chocolate

CBD chocolate doesn’t leave much for the imagination. Pretty much what it says on the packaging. CBD hemp extract infused into chocolate. They come in delicious flavors and are an excellent option for sweet-toothed users, as well as beginners.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Delicious tastes and flavors
  • Wide range of product variants
  • Good alternative to naturally-flavored CBD products
  • Good as a CBD top-up

Cons:

  • High sugar content (not the healthiest)
  • One of the more expensive CBD edible options
  • Can contain low amounts of CBD

How to consume:

Place a piece of CBD chocolate in your mouth and swallow just like regular chocolate. One or two pieces for lunch or after dinner. Great as a sugary treat. Very versatile too. Can be consumed orally as is or melted down to create your own CBD brownies or CBD chocolate-coated fruit. Many uses in your favorite desserts or after dinner recipes. High sugar but generally low CBD content (5-20 mg per piece). Don’t consume too many. Not the healthiest option.

What is it good for?

  • Premeasured CBD dose
  • Sweet flavors
  • After-dinner treat
  • Discrete consumption
  • Used with CBD as a top-up

Who is CBD chocolate for?

CBD chocolate is for anyone with a sweet tooth and a penchant for all things chocolate-related. Looking for an after-dinner treat? CBD chocolate is perfect. Looking for a lunchtime dessert? CBD chocolate is also perfect here.

How can CBD chocolate help you?

CBD chocolate has low CBD content. Not suitable for physiological symptoms. Won’t be hugely effective, especially if the symptoms are severe. Better for general relaxation and some wellness benefits. Dark chocolate CBD is better than milk chocolate. Contains valuable antioxidants and nutrients alongside CBD hemp extract.

How long do CBD chocolate’s effects last in the body?

Anywhere between 2-4 hours. CBD chocolate’s low CBD content won’t satisfy your mind and body for as long as high-strength CBD edibles (CBD gummies, etc). To boost the lifespan of CBD chocolate’s effects, we recommend consuming a higher strength CBD oil or CBD capsule as well.

How is it made?

CBD chocolate is made using high-quality CBD hemp extract infused into unsalted butter, cocoa, flavor extracts (vanilla is popular), and sugar. Some variants use caramel, popcorn, fruit, etc for added flavor.

CBD chocolate product variations:

  • CBD chocolate bar
  • CBD chocolate caramel bites
  • CBD chocolate covered fruit
  • CBD chocolate liquorice
  • CBD brownies

For best CBD chocolate quality, look for:

  • Fairtrade-certified chocolate
  • Broad or full-spectrum CBD hemp extract (USA-grown hemp)
  • No added sugar
  • Natural ingredients
  • No artificial flavors
  • Certificate of Analysis (COA)

4. CBD Mints

CBD mints are the freshest type of CBD product. They are exactly the same as regular mints with hemp extract infused into them. They come in fresh, minty flavors.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Good for pre-dosing
  • Good for breath, especially after spicy food
  • Can be used on-the-go

Cons:

  • Disproportionately pricey compared to other, more effective CBD products
  • Can melt in the heat
  • Can cause stomach discomforts

How to consume:

Easily. Same way you would with regular mints. Pop one or two in your mouth and let it absorb into your mouth. Swallow residual mint substance once finished. No other equipment needed. No need to swallow with water either.

What is it good for?

  • Fresh, minty alternative to naturally-flavored CBD products
  • Premeasured CBD dosing
  • Ease of use
  • Doubles up as a breath-freshener

Who is it for?

CBD mints are for anyone needing a fresh, minty CBD top-up in conjunction with stronger, more effective CBD products such as CBD oils, CBD capsules, or CBD vape products.

How can CBD mints help you?

Surprisingly, CBD mints can be very effective, especially if you consume a higher-strength mint product (50-80 mg per mint).

High-strength CBD mints are good for:

  • Mild pain
  • Mild inflammation
  • Mild anxiety
  • General health and wellness

Better used with other CBD products, to be honest. Can be consumed as a top-up in conjunction with CBD oils, CBD capsules, or CBD vape products.

How is it made?

CBD mints are made by combining CBD hemp extract into hard mint candy ingredients such as cane sugar, calcium stearate, peppermint oil, and lavender oil. Natural herbs are sometimes also used for more enhanced benefits.

CBD mints product variations:

Not many CBD mint product variants unless you count flavors and additional ingredients (herbs, oils, etc). Flavor variants include:

  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint
  • Fruit infusions (blackcurrant, watermelon, etc)

Additional ingredients:

  • Passionflower
  • Lavender
  • Ashwagandha

For best quality CBD mints, look for:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Additional terpenes
  • US-grown hemp
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party testing (COAs)

CBD Beverages

CBD beverages are some of the newest hemp-derived CBD products to enter the market. Their popularity has grown exponentially. By 2025, the CBD beverage market is predicted to reach $1 billion.

Specific CBD beverages have done very well over recent years. Ready-to-drink, packaged CBD teas and CBD coffee sales grew by over 3000% in 2019 compared to the year beforeCBD beverages are marketed for the “health kick” crowd – anyone who enjoys a healthy, clean lifestyle with some added holistic help.

What do you typically find in these products? Well, pretty much the same as you would with regular beverages but with the therapeutic benefits of CBD or cannabis extract carrying special molecules and compounds to enhance your overall experience. CBD beverages include a range of different products, mostly non-alcoholic such as wine, beer, water, kombucha, tea, and coffee.

CBD drinks are great for socializing or relaxing with friends. Also perfect for teetotallers who are partial to some hemp or cannabis-derived goodness. The CBD content is typically low-to-medium (10-25mg/drink) and suitable for beginners.

1. CBD Water

CBD water is hemp extract infused into regular water. It has attracted a lot of criticism for being the worst and least effective method of delivering CBD into your system. CBD water contains very low CBD content. Companies promote “nano-technology” CBD water for better absorption and bioavailability but we’re unconvinced by how effective this really is.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Hydrating

Cons:

  • Overpriced
  • Low CBD content
  • Low absorption rate and bioavailability
  • Not very effective

How to consume:

You consume CBD water just as you would regular water.

What is it good for?

Not much really. CBD water isn’t particularly effective. Carries very little CBD.

Who is it for?

CBD water is a gimmick. We don’t recommend this product to anyone. It’s not effective. The only positive we see is it hydrates you (but so does regular water).

How can CBD water help you?

Keeps you hydrated. That’s about it.

Effects:

We’re not convinced of its effects (or benefits), to be honest. Some believe there are slight calming and soothing effects after drinking two or three bottles but this is purely anecdotal. If we go by success stories, we imagine effects may start working within 30 minutes.

How is it made?

CBD water is made by infusing small CBD particles into water. Some companies break the CBD down into nano-particles for “better” absorption and bioavailability, but the results aren’t particularly convincing. The resulting CBD-infused water is then placed into glass or plastic bottles ready for you to drink.

CBD water product variations:

  • CBD sparkling water
  • CBD flavored sparkling water (fruit infusions)
  • CBD coconut water

For best quality CBD water, look for:

If you’re seriously looking to purchase CBD water, here’s what to look out for:

  • US-grown hemp
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party testing
  • At least 25mg of full-spectrum CBD per bottle
  • Glass bottles
  • UV-protected bottles
  • Added minerals and electrolytes

2. CBD Sparkling Drinks

CBD sparkling drinks is an umbrella term for any CBD-infused carbonated beverage. They’re sparkling alternatives to regular still CBD beverages. Usually flavored and quite refreshing, but can be very sugary. The many flavors include fruit infusions (lemonade, cherry, lime, etc), ginger (CBD ginger ale), or herbal (lavender, etc). However, similar to CBD water, sparkling drinks aren’t convincingly effective.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Tasty flavors
  • Sweet alternative to still CBD water
  • Sometimes hydrating (regular sparkling CBD water)

Cons:

  • Often overpriced
  • Not very effective
  • Low CBD content
  • Low absorption and bioavailability

How to consume:

The same as you would with any regular sparkling drink.

What is it good for?

CBD sparkling drinks are similar to CBD water insofar as being pretty ineffective. Good as a sweet beverage to consume once in a while but that’s about it.

Who is it for?

Similar to CBD water, we don’t recommend CBD sparkling drinks if you’re looking for an effective CBD product. Quite gimmicky and overpriced. However, if you’re searching for a sweet, fruity carbonated CBD beverage, you’ve come to the right place. Just don’t go expecting any miracles.

How can CBD sparkling drinks help you?

CBD sparkling drinks won’t really help you with anything. The CBD content is too low. Usually only 5-10 mg of CBD (if you’re lucky). Good for taste, bad for any health conditions. We wouldn’t even suggest it for general health and wellness. Processed sugar content can be pretty high.

Effects:

Difficult to say. Similar to regular CBD water and other beverages, the CBD content is too low to really make a difference. Some believe they’ve felt very mild effects within 30 minutes but this is anecdotal. We imagine some of these “CBD effects” are sugar-related and not actually from the CBD itself.

How is it made?

CBD sparkling drinks are made by infusing CBD hemp extract into a carbonated substance (water, etc) alongside cane sugar, natural flavorings, fruit juices, and/or herbs (depending on the product you buy). They’re purposely fizzy in your mouth, making them pretty refreshing.

CBD sparkling drink product variations:

  • CBD sparkling water
  • CBD ginger ale
  • CBD sparkling sodas
  • CBD lemonade
  • CBD cola

For best quality CBD sparkling drinks, look for:

  • Naturally-sourced ingredients
  • Natural flavorings
  • No added sugar
  • High CBD content (over 25mg/drink)
  • UV-protected bottles
  • US-grown hemp (organic, non-GMO)
  • Third-party testing (COAS)

3. CBD Tea

CBD tea is hemp extract-infused tea available in two different types: loose-leaf and teabags. CBD teabags are typically made using ground hemp plants (leaves, buds, etc) alongside other additional herbs and therapeutic ingredients (lemongrass, lavender, peppermint, spearmint, etc). Loose-leaf, on the other hand, is pretty much what it says on the tin. Doesn’t come in tea bags but as small chunks of hemp flower and other ingredients ready to be steeped in hot water.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Lots of different product variants and options
  • Excellent flavors
  • Good as a nighttime hot beverage
  • Cleaner delivery

Cons:

  • Can be more expensive than regular tea
  • Not hugely effective in terms of CBD — the additional ingredients are usually better
  • CBD content can be low, though you do find higher-strength options
  • Inconvenient

How to consume:

There’s an art to consuming CBD tea and it’s all down to preparation. You see, CBD tea requires a little time and patience before you drink it. You need to soak it in boiling water for at least 5-10 minutes, particularly if it’s CBD teabags. Loose-leaf CBD teabags have more space for the water to filter through, reducing the time for compounds to infuse into the mix. Once that’s done, simply drink it the same way you would regular tea. Let it cool down first, though. It’s hot!

Tip: CBD tea isn’t the best option in terms of absorption. Drink it with milk or fatty foods to boost absorption and, by extension, bioavailability.

What is it good for?

  • Relaxation
  • Additional ingredients also soothing, relaxing, or energizing (depending on which tea variant you choose)
  • Can be consumed at any time of the day

Who is it for?

Not only are CBD teas great for any tea connoisseur, but they’re also pretty relaxing and soothing. Though the CBD content isn’t always high enough to be a primary source, there’s enough in there to be somewhat effective. If you’re someone who finds it difficult to relax at night, CBD teas are a worthy product.

How can it help you?

CBD tea often carries raw hemp with a percentage of CBDa, a known anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and mood-enhancer. Though some of the CBDa will be lost due to water temperature, some will remain, providing you with some therapeutic benefits.

So, if you’re combating signs of pain and inflammation, or you need a little mood boost, a cup or two of CBD tea may help you. We recommend consuming CBD + CBDa capsules here as well as a top-up.

Other ways CBD can help you include:

  • Mild sedation and relaxation
  • Mild sleep aid (with lavender or chamomile)
  • Some general health and wellness benefits

How is it made?

Loose-leaf CBD tea is made by combining whole pieces of the hemp plant (leaves, bud, etc) with other herbs and plants. Manufacturers do not grind up these ingredients to make a powder. Instead, they keep them as they are ready for you to filter yourself using boiling water.

CBD teabags, on the other hand, generally have ground-up hemp flower, herbs, and other plant plants. The resulting powder gets put into a teabag pouch.

CBD tea product variations:

Aside from teabag and loose-leaf variants, most CBD tea options are determined by the additional ingredients used alongside the CBD hemp flower or extract.

Additional ingredients used include:

  • Ginger — antioxidant, oxidative stress reduction, nausea & vomiting
  • Lemongrass — antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory
  • Peppermint — irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) symptom reduction, nausea, energizing
  • Chamomile — reduces menstrual pain, lowers blood sugar, anti-inflammatory
  • Rose petals — antioxidant, menstrual pain reduction, stress reduction, relaxation

For best quality CBD tea, look for:

  • Organic, Non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Organic, clean additional ingredients
  • Third-party testing (COA)
  • Fairtrade
  • No synthetics

4. CBD Coffee

It’s not difficult to work out what CBD coffee is but it’s certainly difficult to explain how utterly amazing it is, especially in the morning. Think regular coffee with a holistic kick up the ass. Made from a blend of CBD hemp extract or oil infused into coffee beans. Depending on the product, the CBD is either infused during the roasting process, often ensuring your coffee tastes like coffee, or added as CBD oil after the coffee is prepared. This may cause the product to taste a little like hemp.

Some CBD-infused coffee drinks may use full-spectrum CBD extract, which contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial plant compounds. This will create a stronger taste but still provide the same benefits of CBD we’ve all come to know. You can add CBD to your own coffee too, no matter whether it’s a roast, an espresso, a cold brew, blended with milk to create a mind-blowing CBD latte.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Energizing and calming — good for mornings and evenings
  • Great tastes and flavors
  • Can purchase pre-packaged cold-brew CBD coffee
  • Convenient and easy to consume

Cons:

  • Expensive compared to regular coffee
  • CBD content can be fairly low (not as low as CBD water or tea)

How to consume:

Consuming CBD coffee is no different from regular coffee. All you need to do is brew hot water, place the coffee beans into a machine (or straight into the cup if it’s instant CBD coffee), and drink. No fancy techniques needed. Don’t forget to stir the CBD coffee in thoroughly.

We recommend drinking CBD coffee with milk. Why? Because milk is a fatty substance. Allows CBD to absorb more efficiently into your body, thus boosting bioavailability.

What is it good for?

  • Energy, alertness in the morning
  • Decent alternative to regular coffee
  • Consuming a lower strength CBD product (good for beginners who love coffee)

Who is it for?

If you’re a coffee and CBD lover, CBD coffee is for you. You get the traditional flavors of coffee alongside a small hint of hemp extract (not overwhelming by any means). We recommend CBD coffee if you need a perk-up in the morning or afternoon.

How can it help you?

You get the best of two worlds with CBD coffee: energizing caffeine and relaxing CBD. If you want the full CBD coffee experience, make sure you purchase a product with full-spectrum CBD hemp extract for a full range of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes.

CBD coffee may help you with certain ailments as well:

  • Depression and stress (mood-enhancing qualities)
  • Concentration and focus issues (ADD)
  • May counteract caffeine-induced anxiety

We suggest being careful with CBD coffee, however. The balancing nature of caffeine and CBD is often overstated. If you’re predisposed to caffeine-induced anxiety or panic, CBD infusion won’t totally counteract this, especially when the CBD content is low. Try one cup to start out with. If you start feeling jittery, discontinue use and try a decaffeinated CBD coffee variant.

How is it made?

Creating high-quality CBD coffee takes more effort than just pouring CBD oil onto coffee beans. It requires a meticulous process. Many manufacturers will use the naturally-occurring coffee bean oils produced during the grinding and roasting stage. This oil will be infused with natural CBD hemp extract, masking and/or eliminating the hempy, weedy taste altogether.

CBD coffee product variations:

  • Cold-brew CBD coffee
  • Flavored CBD coffee

For best quality CBD coffee, look for:

  • Fairtrade coffee beans (sourced ethically)
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp used
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party testing (COAs)
  • Deep, rich flavors and aromas
  • Reputable CBD manufacturer/brand

5. CBD Syrup

CBD syrup is a very sweet and thick liquid similar to cough syrup. CBD syrup isn’t to be confused with CBD oil, however. They’re not the same thing. CBD syrups are made from extracted oil which is then placed into a syrup base — this base contains sugar, water, and flavorings.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Wide range of sweet flavors — masks the taste of natural hemp extract
  • Easy to use — can consume with your favorite beverages
  • Large range of strengths

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • High sugar and fructose corn syrup content
  • Small bottles (generally)

How to consume:

There are two ways to enjoy CBD syrup: diluting it in your favorite soda (we prefer Fanta Orange but the 7/11 slushies are a close second) or consuming it on its own like normal cough syrup. You can also add it to smoothies, cocktails, and some foods as well.

Tip: Be careful not to put it into your favorite beer or liquor. CBD may amplify the effects of alcohol (or vice versa). Very sedating. Can cause drowsiness, dizziness, or sickness.

What is CBD syrup good for?

  • Adding a CBD dose to regular drinks (7-11 iced Slurpees recommended here)
  • Adding a sweeter flavor to regular drinks
  • Discretion — no weedy or hempy aromas

Who is it for?

CBD syrup is for anyone with a sweet-tooth wanting a tasty way of consuming CBD hemp extract. Great alternative to naturally-flavored CBD oils that can taste overwhelmingly earthy and bitter. The large range of flavors is enough to satisfy many users. Not budget-friendly, though. Can be pretty expensive for a small bottle.

How can it help you?

CBD syrups on their own are pretty beneficial, mostly carrying full-spectrum hemp extract alongside a range of other useful ingredients. High-strength, full-spectrum CBD syrup (300-600 mg of CBD per bottle) can help with:

  • Moderate anxiety
  • Moderate relaxation and sleep (with added melatonin)
  • Energy, focus, and attention (with added caffeine)

We suggest CBD syrup for general health and wellness as well, but be careful of the sugar content. Can be quite high. Don’t consume too much. Stick to your recommended daily CBD intake regimen.

How is it made?

CBD syrup is relatively simple to manufacture, requiring few ingredients to get the desired result. It combines water and sugar/honey/agave (or any other sweetener) alongside a high-quality CBD hemp extract. Other specialized ingredients such as caffeine or melatonin can be added.

CBD syrup product variations:

CBD syrup doesn’t have many variations per se. You can find many different flavors or additional ingredients, though.

CBD syrup flavor variants include:

  • Strawberry
  • Grape
  • Apple
  • Watermelon
  • Cherry

You can also pick up an unflavored CBD syrup as well. Best-used in already flavored beverages.

For best quality CBD syrup, look for:

  • No added sugar
  • Honey is the healthiest sweetener choice
  • Natural flavorings
  • Organic, non-GMO CBD hemp extract (USA-grown)
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract (preferred)
  • CO2 extract method
  • Third-party Certificates of Analysis (COAs)

6. CBD Kombucha

CBD kombucha is a refreshing way to consume CBD. Light, flavorsome, and full of beneficial ingredients, as well as hemp extract. Just like regular kombucha, CBD kombucha is sweetened fermented green or black tea served cold. Commonly produced with other flavors as well.

Learn more

Pros:

  • The kombucha and CBD combo is effective for digestion, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and energy
  • Very sweet tasting without the naturally bitter and earthy flavor of hemp
  • Easy to consume

Cons:

  • Can be quite pricey — more so than regular kombucha
  • Typically low CBD content and absorption rate

How to consume:

As with most CBD beverages, kombucha is very easy to consume. You don’t need any fiddly bits of equipment, nor do you need much brain power. You just unscrew the bottle lid and swig it down like any other beverage in your fridge.

What is it good for?

  • Can be taken on-the-go — refreshing throughout the day
  • Used with high-CBD products (oils, etc) as a top-up
  • Refreshing CBD alternative to regular kombucha

Who can benefit?

If you’re aiming to lose weight, improve your digestion, increase your energy, and/or potentially decrease your high blood pressure and cholesterol, CBD kombucha as a daily drink is certainly worth your time.

How can it help you?

CBD kombucha is designed primarily as a refreshing thirst-quencher first and a health and wellness drink second, so don’t go expecting miracles — the CBD content is typically quite low (much akin to the CBD water). Not useless or unbeneficial, however. The combination of kombucha’s antioxidant qualities with CBD’s illustrious repertoire of health benefits really makes this drink a nice addition to your day.

Kombucha alone helps with improved digestion, increased energy, and weight loss— researchers also believe it has the potential to manage high blood pressure and lower cholesterol by at least 25%.

How is it made?

CBD kombucha is made using CBD hemp extract or CBD oil (water-soluble or nono-emulsified), fermented tea, sugars, and any natural (or artificial) sweeteners. You can even make it at home with relative ease.

CBD kombucha product variations:

You can find CBD kombucha in many different flavors. Common CBD kombucha flavors include:

  • Passionfruit & ginger
  • Raspberry
  • Mint
  • Orange
  • Lemongrass
  • Green tea
  • Chai

For best quality CBD kombucha, look for:

  • Reputable CBD brand with high safety standards
  • Organic ingredients
  • Preferably nano-emulsified CBD hemp extract (though we’re unsure of how much this actually helps)
  • No added sugar
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Natural flavorings

7. CBD Beer

CBD beer is a popular way to consume CBD. Beer enthusiasts, CBD lovers, and casual drinkers will enjoy this product. Available with or without alcohol. Combines CBD with regular beer ingredients. Little-to-no weedy, hempy taste. Comes in delicious flavors.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Amazing flavors and aromas derived from the hop and hemp plants
  • Alcohol-free options
  • Above 0.3% THC options
  • Relaxing qualities (CBD & alcohol combo)

Cons:

  • Can be sedating if consumed excessively
  • Pricier than regular beer
  • Above 0.3% THC options only available in states with legalized medical or recreational marijuana

How to consume:

You consume beer the same way you would normal beer. From a safety standpoint, however, you should air on the side of caution when consuming CBD-infused beer, especially if you’re looking to have a quiet night in after work and the alcohol content is high. Too many of these could lead you down the path to sedation or (even worse) nausea.

The good news is, most CBD beer contains very little alcohol content — many alcohol-free.

What is it good for?

  • Relaxation after work or studies
  • Enjoyable taste — good alternative to regular beer
  • Low CBD content for beginners
  • Regular beer alternative for people who don’t drink alcohol

Who can benefit?

CBD beer is for anyone who loves the taste (and feeling) of beer alongside the experience of CBD and other beneficial plant compounds. They’re a great alternative to non-alcoholic beverages, especially if you’re looking to unwind after a long day of work. The abundance of flavor choices is great for beer enthusiasts.

If you’re a teetotaller but appreciate the taste of beer, the alcohol-free CBD beer is perfect for you. Can also be consumed if you’re the designated driver.

How can it help you?

CBD beer with alcohol can help calm your nerves and reduce short-term anxiety (if taken in small doses). Be careful not to drink too much, though. Alcohol alone is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant if in high doses. Can cause hangover depression, sedation, and/or sickness. Pair this with CBD’s relaxing and sedating properties and the effects might be worsened.

Other CBD beer benefits and effects may include:

  • General health and wellness
  • Mild pain
  • Social and recreational relaxation

How is it made?

As mentioned, most CBD beer is alcohol-free or carries no more than 0.5%. During production, the beer goes through a dealcoholization process by taking away the presence of ethanol. Advanced dealcoholization techniques have allowed manufacturers to keep most of the beer’s flavors and aromas during this process. CBD hemp extract (or, more specifically, nano-emulsified CBD) is then added to the final mixture.

CBD beer product variations:

  • CBD India Pale Ale
  • CBD wheat beer/Belgian-style
  • CBD root beer
  • CBD fruit beer
  • CBD lager-style

For best quality CBD beer, look for:

  • Nano-emulsified CBD (your best chance of getting some of the CBD in you)
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp used
  • Third-party tested (COAs)
  • Credible and safe manufacturing breweries
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Natural ingredients

8. CBD Wine

Wine and CBD lovers are in for a treat. CBD wine is exactly what you think it is: wine infused with CBD. Very easy to drink. Not as common as CBD beer but picking up traction in the CBD industry.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Not much more expensive than regular wine (sometimes cheaper on average)
  • Delicious taste (no different from regular wine)
  • Aroma remains the same as regular wine
  • Low calorie

Cons:

  • Requires careful dosing — you can drink too much CBD above your RDA
  • People looking for high alcohol content will be disappointed

How to consume:

CBD wine is consumed the same way as regular wine. Simply pour it into a glass and sip/glug/down it in one. The choice is yours! Remember, most CBD wine carries very low alcohol content, so you don’t have to worry about over-sedation in combo with CBD.

What is it good for?

  • Simple to consume and enjoyable evening drink
  • Beginners, intermediate, and seasoned users can consume CBD wine as a nice CBD top-up
  • A small CBD dose with no excessive alcohol content

Who can benefit?

CBD wine is for anyone who enjoys both CBD and the flavor/aroma of wine (with very little-to-no alcohol content). Suitable for evening events or relaxing in front of the TV. The low alcohol content is great if you’re not an avid drinker.

How can it help you?

CBD wine isn’t really meant for any health benefits, to be honest. It’s a CBD beverage made to enjoy, as opposed to combating any physical, psychological, or physiological ailments. The CBD content is typically lower than, say, CBD oils and CBD capsules.

However, you may feel some mild relief and relaxation. Just don’t go expecting miracles. We recommend using CBD wine for its intended purpose: to kick back, relax, and enjoy.

How is it made?

Similar to CBD beer, CBD wine is mostly dealcoholized, removing most, if not all ethanol from the mix. Nano-emulsified CBD (or another CBD extract type) will then be added into the finished product.

CBD wine product variations:

  • CBD white wine
  • CBD red wine
  • CBD rose

For best quality CBD wine, look for:

  • Where the grapes are grown (good climate, good cultivation practices) — California, Arizona, Texas
  • Grapes cultivated on organic, non-GMO vineyards
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Third-party testing (COA)
  • CO2 extraction method

CBD Sublinguals and Oral Products

CBD oral and sublingual products include some of the most common, sought-after ways to deliver CBD into your body. CBD oils and CBD capsules, for example, are wildly popular and some of the easiest to get your hands on.

We recommend CBD oils and capsules to anyone. Best for beginners looking at getting into the world of CBD. Oral and sublingual CBD is effective depending on which method you choose.

Oral application typically provides fewer effects and benefits due to passing through your digestive system to be metabolized by your liver. It doesn’t go directly into your bloodstream and many of the plant compounds are lost and excreted.

Sublingual method is more effective because it goes directly into the bloodstream via the soft tissue under your tongue, bypassing the digestive system altogether.

Oral and sublingual CBD is best for mild-to-moderate symptoms, though a +1500mg CBD oil might be useful for more severe ailments. We use CBD oils for general health and wellness but can be consumed for anxiety, pain (chronic or otherwise), inflammation, or sleep (with melatonin or equivalent). Good all-rounder, suitable for practically anyone.

1. CBD Oils

CBD oils are the most common and popular CBD products currently on the market. They’re CBD-infused oil substances designed to be consumed orally or sublingually. Very effective (if you choose the right oil product) and user-friendly.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Easy-to-consume and fairly discrete
  • Lots of product choice — strengths, flavors
  • Multipurpose and versatile — can be used sublingually or in foods and drinks

Cons:

  • Naturally-flavored CBD oils can have an overwhelming taste (try flavored ones instead)
  • Passes through the digestive system (oral) — lowers overall bioavailability
  • No immediate effects

How to consume:

The most common way to CBD oil is sublingually — or, rather, applied under the tongue and held there for approximately 90 seconds. This allows the oil (and, by extension, CBD) to absorb into the bloodstream more effectively than just simply swallowing it.

However, CBD oil is also pretty damned versatile. You can add it to foods and drinks—we recommend putting it in a chocolate brownie or a fruity cocktail—or you can apply it to an already existing CBD topical to boost the CBD content.

Either way, CBD oils are essential — but not all are created equal. For more info, check out our comprehensive guide on CBD and CBD oils here.

What is it good for?

  • Dosing on-the-go (a bottle of CBD oil is easily transportable as well)
  • Some discretion
  • Long-lasting effects and benefits
  • Versatility (can be taken orally and sublingually, as well placed in foods and drinks)

Who can benefit?

CBD oil is a pretty good all-rounder and definitely a must-have in everyone’s CBD arsenal. It’s suited to damn-near everyone.

How can CBD oils help you?

CBD oil is very effective. The large range of strengths, potencies, and variants make it essential for a range of health and wellness issues. Multiple studies into CBD oil’s potential benefits show its potential to help you with acne, anxiety, sleep disorders, arthritis, depression, and PTSD.

We recommend a full-spectrum CBD oil product. Carries a whole range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and other beneficial plant compounds (including THC). These plant compounds are said to work in synergy for more enhanced benefits in the body (entourage effect).

Dosing:

  • Beginners: 3-4 drops morning, afternoon, and night (250-500 mg total CBD/roughly 15-30 mg per day)
  • Intermediate users: 3-4 drops morning, afternoon, and night (750-1000 mg total CBD/roughly 45-60 mg per day)
  • Seasoned users: 3-4 drops morning, afternoon, and night (1000-2000 mg total CBD/roughly 75-100 mg per day)

How is it made?

CBD oil is created by extracting CBD from the hemp (or marijuana) plant, which is then diluted into a carrier oil (medium-chain-triglyceride (MCT) oil, hempseed oil, sunflower oil, etc). This oil is usually quite thin with a transparent orange or yellow hue.

Depending on the extraction and refinement process, CBD oil can come with other beneficial cannabinoids such as THC, CBN, and CBC, as well as terpenes (linalool, limonene, etc). These cannabinoids and terpenes are found in broad-spectrum (minus THC) or full-spectrum CBD hemp extracts. Can stand alone as a CBD isolate extract as well.

CBD oil product variations:

CBD oils don’t usually come in many variants — their success hinges on how basic they are. Sometimes other additional ingredients are included such as:

  • Melatonin — helps you fall asleep, good for sleep disorders and jet lag
  • Curcumin — enhances CBD bioavailability + combats oxidative stress, inflammation, anxiety, and arthritis
  • Piperine — reduces insulin-resistance + anti-inflammatory

You can also find CBD oils with additional CBN or CBG for added benefits.

For best quality CBD oils, look for:

  • Reputable & credible CBD brand
  • Not listed on Amazon
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party tested (COAs)
  • No synthetics
  • All-natural ingredients
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract

2. CBD Strips

CBD sublingual strips are dissolvable CBD-infused strips designed for convenience and ease-of-use. They are very similar to regular minty breath strips – thin and discrete.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Discrete, convenient, and easy to use — suitable for beginners
  • Usually flavored, masks natural hemp taste
  • Perfect for sublingual application

Cons:

  • Can be expensive (a 3-pack can cost upwards of $5 or $6)
  • Fairly low CBD content (typically 15-25 mg per strip)

How to use:

The best way to use CBD strips is to place one under your tongue (sublingually) and wait for it to dissolve (this usually takes seconds). Sublingual application of CBD strips is preferred due to the CBD penetrating the soft tissue under your tongue without it needing to go through the digestive system. This route allows CBD to go directly into the bloodstream.

What is it good for?

  • Premeasured dosing on-the-go
  • Suitable CBD top-up (in conjunction with primary CBD source e.g. CBD oils, capsules, etc)
  • Fresher breath
  • Discretion

Who can benefit?

As mentioned, CBD strips are convenient and easy-to-use. Good for casual or beginner CBD users, as well as anyone with a busy work schedule needing a CBD top-up on-the-go.

How can CBD strips help you?

We don’t recommend CBD strips as a primary method of delivering CBD into your body. The CBD content is typically too low and they’re expensive to purchase in the long-run. Strips are valuable as a CBD top-up in conjunction with regular CBD oil or CBD capsule dosing.

Combined with CBD oil, CBD capsules, etc, CBD strips may help with:

  • Mild anxiety
  • Mild pain & inflammation
  • General health and wellness

How is it made?

CBD strips are difficult to make. Manufacturers combine all the ingredients into a smoothie-like substance ready to be poured onto a surface for a clever machine to thin it out. It goes into an oven and then is cut into strips.

CBD strip product variations:

CBD strip product variations are limited. The only real variants out there are flavor options. Common flavors include:

  • Mint
  • Lemon
  • Ginger-Peach

For best quality CBD strips, look for:

  • Natural flavorings
  • Little-to-no chemicals used during the manufacturing process
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp
  • CO2 extraction process
  • Full-spectrum CBD hemp extract
  • No synthetics
  • Above 15mg of CBD per strip
  • Full-spectrum extract

3. CBD Oral Spray

CBD oral sprays are essentially CBD oils with a “spray” applicator at the top of the bottle, as opposed to a pre-measured dropper. Reasonably discrete but very easy to apply. Well-suited to beginners. Most CBD sprays are available in various flavors.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Fairly discrete
  • Easy to use
  • Easily transportable — small bottle
  • Less likely to leak
  • Available in several strengths and flavors

Cons:

  • Not as effective as vaping or smoking CBD
  • Oral application (not sublingual) isn’t as effective
  • Can spray to the back of the throat, resulting in a gag reflex

How to use:

Simply spray the oil into your mouth using the applicator. We recommend spraying under the tongue (sublingually) and not directly onto the tongue/into the mouth. Sublingual application of any CBD product is better for absorption and increased bioavailability. Far more effective. Quicker relief.

How can CBD sprays help you?

Aside from being convenient and easy to use, CBD sprays have the same potential benefits and effects as normal CBD oils.

Many use CBD sprays for a range of issues such as:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related issues
  • Pain and pain-related symptoms
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep and sleep-related issues (melatonin infusion helps here)
  • General health and wellness

Note: Prescription-only marijuana-derived CBD oral sprays are also used for symptoms of multiple sclerosis (Sativex). Contains THC. Known to combat muscle spasticity. Not legal in US states where medical cannabis is prohibited.

How is it made?

CBD sprays are designed the same way as CBD oils. Inside the bottle you’ll find a liquid/oil formula composed of high-quality CBD hemp extract diluted in a carrier oil (MCT, hemp seed oil, etc). The main difference is the applicator (spray not dropper).

CBD spray product variations:

Very few (if any) CBD spray product variations — only flavor variants.

Common CBD spray flavors include:

  • Natural hemp flavor (unflavored)
  • Lemon
  • Berry
  • Peppermint
  • Spearmint

For best quality CBD sprays, look for:

  • Hemp sourced from organic, non-GMO farms (USA)
  • CO2 extracted
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Third-party tested (with Certificates of Analysis)
  • All-natural ingredients

4. CBD Capsules

CBD capsules (also known as CBD pills or CBD softgels) are orally consumed capsules carrying hemp-derived CBD (and other ingredients). Some come in a soft gel capsule made from gelatin (non-vegan-friendly) or vegetable extract (vegan) alongside hemp seed oil or coconut oil. Others come in a hardshell type capsule.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Convenient, easy-to-use, and discrete
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Flavorless and odorless
  • Comes in many strength options

Cons:

  • Can cause stomach complaints
  • Softgel capsules can melt in the heat

How to use:

The reason why CBD capsules are so popular is they’re so easy to consume. All you have to do is take 1-2 capsules and swallow them with some water, soda, or any other beverage. Very simple.

Who can benefit?

CBD capsules are slow-releasing, which means they pass through the digestive tract to be metabolized by the liver. This process takes time. The CBD (and other ingredients and plant compounds) slowly absorb into the bloodstream over time.

Perfect for busy, on-to-go people needing a gradual, premeasured dose of CBD throughout the day or overnight while you sleep.

How can CBD capsules help you?

CBD capsules come in many strengths. At the lower end, you have 15 mg of CBD per capsule. At the higher end, you have around 50-60 mg of CBD per capsule. Both options are good for a whole range of physiological benefits such as:

  • Moderate-to-severe anxiety and nervousness
  • Moderate-to-severe pain and inflammation
  • Moderate-to-severe sleep issues (melatonin-infused capsules are useful here)
  • General health and wellness

We recommend a broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD capsule product for enhanced benefits.

How is it made?

CBD softgels are made using a gelatin or vegetable extract to encapsulate the CBD hemp extract. Filler ingredients such as hemp seed oil or coconut oil are used as well to suspend the CBD hemp extract within the outer capsule.

CBD capsule product variations:

  • CBD softgel capsules
  • CBD hardshell capsules
  • CBD pills

For best quality CBD capsules, look for:

  • Broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD hemp extract
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party testing
  • Vegetable extract used for the capsule if you’re a vegan
  • CBD content (nothing lower than 15 mg per capsule)

CBD Concentrates

Concentrates are the most potent CBD products on the market and carry between 50-90% CBD (or other cannabinoids). Types of concentrates include isolate powders, crystals, wax, shatter, live resin, and crumble.

They are extremely versatile and can be used in many ways, making them good all-rounders for beginners and experienced users. Many consume concentrates via inhalation (dabbing and vaporizing) but they can also be smoked or placed into foods and drinks (CBD isolate powder/crystals are good here). Concentrates are most effective when inhaled – this can be off-putting to some users, especially beginners.

CBD concentrates are generally very useful for immediate relief from moderate-to-severe anxiety, depression, pain, inflammation, and/or sleep issues. Best-used if you have a busy life schedule and need a pick-me-up in the morning or relaxation before bed. Also good for social stress or post-workout relief.

CBD isolate powders and crystals are the least effective of concentrates as they only carry CBD, which is best for mild symptoms. All other concentrates carry high levels of terpenes and other plant compounds.

1. CBD Isolate Powder/Crystals

CBD isolate is the strongest CBD product on the market. Typically carries over 90% CBD. No other plant compounds (terpenes, flavonoids, lipids, etc) remain during extraction and purification (no entourage effect). No flavor or odor.

There are two types of CBD isolate: CBD isolate powder and CBD isolate crystals. Both carry the same amount of CBD (+90%). Texture and consistency are different. CBD isolate crystals are, well, tiny little crystals. CBD isolate powder has a look and consistency that’s similar to baking powder.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Very potent
  • Flavorless and odorless
  • Highly versatile — number of different uses
  • Easy to use (if adding to food and drink, etc)

Cons:

  • Potency not suitable for beginners
  • Dabbing or vaporizing CBD isolates can be complicated — requires additional equipment
  • Can be mistaken for cocaine

How to use:

CBD isolate powder and CBD isolate crystals are very versatile. You can use them in a variety of different ways due to being naturally odorless and flavorless.

  • Add them to food and drinks
  • Add them into a CBD hemp joint
  • Vaporize or dab them
  • Consume them orally or sublingually
  • Mix in with an already existing topical

Tip: If you’re going to add CBD isolate into a joint, we recommend powder over crystals. Much easier to smoke. Place the powder in between the CBD hemp flower so it lays in the middle, as opposed to resting on top. This allows the joint to burn evenly, resulting in a smoother, more enjoyable smoke.

Who can benefit?

As mentioned, CBD isolate powders/crystals are versatile. Good for anyone looking to add another level of potency to their food, drinks, existing CBD topicals, or CBD hemp flower joints. Best-used in a vaporizer or dab rig for maximum effects and benefits.

Despite their versatility, CBD isolates aren’t recommended to beginners. The potency is way too strong. Over 90% CBD can be overwhelming, leading to unwanted side-effects. If you want to get started with CBD concentrates, we recommend a lower potency full-spectrum CBD wax.

How can CBD isolate help you?

Despite their enhanced potency, CBD isolate powders/crystals carry no other beneficial plant compounds, limiting their physiological benefits. CBD as a standalone cannabinoid (at a potency of 90%+) may help with:

  • Inflammation
  • Chronic pain symptoms
  • Relaxation (stimulates your central nervous system)
  • Mild-to-moderate sedation
  • General health and wellness (boosts your endocannabinoid system)

We recommend a CBD isolate powder/crystal product with added terpenes for more enhanced benefits.

Common terpenes include:

  • Humulene — potential anticancer proliferation, anti-bacterial
  • Eucalyptol — anti-inflammatory, antibacterial
  • Myrcene — sleep aid (increased sleep duration), sedation
  • Pinene — combats short-term memory issues from THC consumption, bronchodilator, anti-anxiety
  • Linalool — antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, anti-cancer (potentially), anti-oxidant

How is it made?

CBD isolate requires the extract to be stripped of all other plant compounds, leaving only CBD in the mixture.

CBD isolate product variations:

The reason why CBD isolates are so popular is you know what you’re getting each time. They’re consistently potent with no additional ingredients or flavorings. What you see is what you get. No surprises.

The only variant you’ll find is terpene-infused CBD isolate powder/crystals. The inclusion of terpenes is said to provide you with some enhanced benefits, though they won’t be as effective as a full-spectrum CBD concentrate with other cannabinoids + THC.

For best quality CBD isolate, look for:

  • Pure white color (pink hue means contamination)
  • CO2 extracted
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Third-party tested (COA)
  • 90%+ CBD content
  • Terpenes infused (if necessary)
  • No flavorings

2. CBD Wax

CBD wax is a highly-concentrated form of hemp-derived extract famous for its “waxy”, almost sticky look and texture, while still retaining its solidity. It contains between 10-65% CBD. Unlike CBD isolate powders, CBD wax carries valuable cannabinoids, terpenes, and waxes, though part of its lipid profile is removed. This lipid removal is mostly responsible for its texture and look.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Carries a large range of beneficial plant compounds + large quantity of CBD (10-65%)
  • Wider range of health and wellness benefits (entourage effect)
  • Versatile
  • Easy to consume orally (no additional equipment required)

Cons:

  • Not suitable for beginners (very potent)
  • Vaping or dabbing CBD wax requires additional equipment (dab rig, etc)
  • Can be expensive
  • Not flavorless or odorless

How to use:

CBD wax is versatile. You can use them in a variety of different ways including:

  • Consumed raw
  • Smoked (placed in a CBD hemp flower joint or bowl)
  • Vaporized or dabbed (most effective)

TIP: If you add CBD wax to a joint, make sure you don’t place it on top of the CBD flower. Instead, place it in the middle of the flower layers like a burger between two buns. This will prevent an uneven joint burn, resulting in a smooth smoke.

Who can benefit?

CBD wax is a great addition to your CBD arsenal. Acts as a good alternative to CBD isolate powder/crystals if you’re looking for a full-spectrum concentrate with a large number of beneficial plant compounds. We recommend CBD wax for seasoned CBD users accustomed to the CBD experience. High potency. Can be overwhelming to beginner CBD users.

How can CBD wax help you?

Because CBD wax is a full-spectrum concentrate product, it helps produce the entourage effect, a phenomenon resulting in cannabinoids and terpenes interacting with THC to produce enhanced physical, physiological, and psychological benefits.

Many users consume CBD wax for the following:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related disorders
  • Pain and inflammation (chronic, neurological, or otherwise)
  • Sleep and sleep-related disorders (insomnia, anxiety-related sleep problems)
  • General health and wellness

We recommend vaporizing or smoking CBD wax with a high-quality CBD hemp flower for best results.

Effects:

Smoked or vaped, CBD wax’s effects are almost immediate. Consumed orally, CBD wax must pass through the digestive tract and the liver before entering into the bloodstream. This can take time. Effects should begin approximately 30 minutes to an hour after consumption. CBD wax’s effects can last anywhere between 2-6 hours.

How is it made?

After a pure CO2 or Butane Hash Oil extracted CBD hemp extract is produced, it goes through a refinement process to remove some unwanted plant compounds (mostly lipids). The rest of the plant compounds are kept in the extract. When the lipids are removed, a waxy substance is created.

CBD wax product variations:

There are no CBD wax product variations. The only differences between each individual CBD wax is the CBD percentage and the number of other natural compounds in the extract.

For best quality CBD wax, look for:

  • Preferably CO2 extract method (cleaner and keeps a larger percentage of plant compounds in the extract)
  • Organic, non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Third-party testing
  • Color & texture (should be dark-ish orange/yellow, waxy, and sticky)
  • Optimal CBD content (lower CBD content = good for beginners, higher CBD content = good for seasoned users)

3. CBD Shatter

CBD shatter is a concentrated form of CBD extract not too dissimilar from CBD wax in terms of carrying a large range of beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and waxes. The texture and consistency, however, are different. During extraction and purification, more lipids and sterols are removed, resulting in a slightly rigid, viscous product resembling cloudy glass. Higher CBD content (roughly 40-80% CBD depending on the brand).

Learn more

Pros:

  • Carries a large number of beneficial plant compounds (cannabinoids, terpenes, etc)
  • Easy to use and convenient if consumed orally
  • Higher CBD content than CBD wax

Cons:

  • Not completely odorless — has a natural but sometimes strong smell when dabbed or vaporized
  • Not suited to beginners if smoking, vaping, or dabbing
  • Can be pricey

How to use:

CBD shatter can be used in a number of different ways. Its versatility, as well as its high CBD content, makes it very popular amongst many CBD users.

Common CBD shatter uses include:

  • Dabbing and vaporizing
  • Consumed orally or sublingually
  • Added to a CBD hemp joint
  • Placed inside your own homemade CBD capsules

Tip: If you’re making your own homemade CBD capsules, make sure you weigh up the CBD shatter for accurate dosing.

Who can benefit?

CBD shatter carries a high percentage of beneficial plant compounds alongside a higher percentage of CBD (compared to CBD wax). Good if you’re looking for a potent full-spectrum CBD product. Its composition allows it to melt easier as well, making it a perfect choice for vaping, dabbing, and smoking.

NOTE: Vaping, dabbing, or smoking CBD shatter isn’t suited to beginners. The potency is certainly overwhelming if you have no experience with consuming CBD products. We recommend consuming it orally or sublingually first.

How can CBD shatter help you?

CBD shatter’s CBD-heavy composition alongside other valuable plant compounds makes it a good all-rounder. We particularly enjoy a 50-60% CBD shatter product. Not too overwhelming. Nice sensation.

CBD shatter products are good for:

  • Inflammation (the high CBD content will tackle inflammatory conditions more effectively than, say, CBD wax with a low-end 10-15% CBD content)
  • Moderate chronic pain
  • Sleep
  • Relaxation
  • General health and wellness

How is it made?

CBD shatter is made the same way as CBD wax but with more plant compounds stripped away during extraction and purification, which (as mentioned) gives the product its famous glass-like appearance.

CBD shatter product variations:

Don’t expect any CBD product variations. There aren’t any. CBD shatter prides itself on being as basic as it is effective. Very few (if any) additional ingredients. Natural terpene flavors reminiscent of cannabis strains are a plus, though.

For best quality CBD shatter, look for:

  • CO2 extraction method
  • Hemp sourced from organic, safe, non-GMO hemp farms
  • Third-party testing (COA)
  • Glass-like consistency — no sticky or waxy texture
  • No pink or off-white hue — can signal contamination

4. CBD Live Resin

CBD live resin is arguably one of the best and most natural concentrated CBD products out there right now. Created from hemp extract from still-growing hemp plants to retain (and preserve) all the natural cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, lipids, alcohols, and waxes. It’s the closest concentrate product to real hemp plants. Very strong hempy aromas from the large terpene profile. Strong flavors. Essentially the opposite of CBD isolate powders/crystals.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Very high terpene profile (up to 90%)
  • Can carry high percentages of other cannabinoids besides CBD
  • Forces manufacturers to always use high-quality hemp
  • The most natural CBD concentrate out there

Cons:

  • Requires dabbing or vape tools for maximized usage
  • Not suitable for beginners (potent)
  • Very strong smell and aroma
  • Very expensive

How to use:

The best way to consume CBD live resin is via dabbing, smoking, or vaporizing. Immediate effects. You can also consume it orally but the natural flavor can be very pungent.

Who can benefit?

CBD live resin is the ultimate CBD concentrate. Great for seasoned users wanting to experiment was something totally different from regular CBD waxes or CBD shatter, while still getting the same rich, natural plant experience (and then some!). We don’t recommend CBD live resin to beginners, though we won’t stop you from trying it.

How can CBD live resin help you?

CBD live resin is loaded with terpenes (up to 90%). Pair this with a large number of cannabinoids, flavonoids, waxes and lipids, and you have yourself a CBD concentrate beast. Great for a whole range of physiological, physical, and psychological ailments including:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Depression (terpenes such as pinene and limonene are great mood-enhancers alongside CBD and THC)
  • Pain and pain-related symptoms (chronic, neurological or otherwise)
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep and sleep-related disorders (caryophyllene and myrcene are great sedatives alongside CBD and CBN, as well as THC)
  • General health and wellness

How is it made?

CBD live resin is made using an OBE-Dos Extractor, a special closed-loop system composed of cooled butane. The machine is designed by EmoTek Labs. Extraction is careful, meticulous, and efficient without harming or destroying valuable plant compounds in the process. You’re guaranteed amazing results here.

CBD live resin product variations:

You can pick up CBD live resin in different forms including:

  • CBD live resin wax
  • CBD live resin shatter
  • CBD live resin in a pre-loaded vape pen
  • CBD live resin in a pre-loaded cartridge

For best quality CBD live resin, look for:

  • High-quality, organic, non-GMO hemp (USA-grown)
  • Cooled butane hash extraction method (OBE-Dos Unit)
  • Third-party testing (COA)
  • Rich hemp aroma and flavor
  • CBD content (the higher the better for experienced users)

CBD Topicals

CBD topicals are hemp-derived products you apply to the skin. Regarded by many as superior to regular topicals found in grocery stores, pharmacies, and health shops. Great as a skincare addition.

Many CBD topicals are designed for specialized treatment as well, carrying special ingredients (alongside hemp extract) to combat muscle and joint pain.

Some CBD topicals work better than others for certain ailments. CBD creams, for instance, are thinner, and typically water-based with essential oils ready to tackle skin complaints for people with acne-prone skin. CBD balms, on the other hand, are generally better for very dry, cracked skin due to their thickness.

Overall, CBD topicals are useful for all occasions and generally best-used for skin discomforts, muscle pain, and joint issues. Specialized CBD topicals for muscle and joint pain are excellent for post-workout relief or if you have a physically demanding occupation. Always choose a broad or full-spectrum product for best results. So, which CBD topical is best for you?

1. CBD Cream

CBD creams are the most popular and arguably most versatile hemp-derived topicals currently on the market. They combine ingredients commonly found in regular topicals with high-quality hemp extract for a fuller, more well-rounded experience. Beauty and skincare enthusiasts benefit here, simply because the CBD (alongside other beneficial plant compounds) work together with the other elements for softer, healthier looking skin.

Manufacturers use a water-base as a foundation, while other, heavier topicals use an oil base. Very easy to spread across the skin but generally quite thin. Useful for surface layer skin ailments or under the surface muscle and joint pain.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Thinner substance — good for acne-prone skin
  • Reasonably priced
  • Easy to use

Cons:

  • Can have a “hemp” aroma
  • Not suitable for dry or cracked skin — doesn’t retain moisture as well as oil-based balms

How to use:

CBD creams are designed to be placed topically onto your skin. You apply the cream liberally to dry, clean skin for best results. Apply more if needed.

REMEMBER: CBD creams are not designed for oral consumption, nor are they created to be used internally.

Who can benefit?

CBD creams are for anyone with an existing skincare regime (or starting one). Great addition if you need a thinner topical that won’t make your skin feel too oily. Most CBD creams, however, are designed for pain, either on the skin’s surface or below onto joints and muscles.

How can CBD creams help you?

CBD creams aren’t going to work well with dry, cracked skin, especially if the symptoms are severe. The cream is typically too thin. A CBD lotion, CBD balm, or CBD salve is a better investment, to be honest. CBD creams are better for acne-prone skin. Doesn’t clog the pores with oil. Still good for absorption into (and below) the skin’s surface.

A full-spectrum CBD topical cream is good here. CBD alone is known to reduce pain and inflammation by interacting with receptors underneath your skin. Paired with other anti-inflammatory cannabinoids (CBN, etc) and terpenes (linalool, myrcene, etc) and you have yourself a winner.

Look out for additional ingredients as well to boost the overall cream’s benefits. Additional ingredients include:

  • Arnica — reduces pain and inflammation, specifically relieves muscle pain, good for sport-related injuries
  • Camphor —pain and inflammation, anti-wrinkle/anti-aging, combats arthritis, good for physical exercise-related injuries and skin health
  • Ginger — anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory, good for skin health and wellness
  • Menthol — improves joint health and combats joint pain

How is it made?

The thinness of CBD creams is the result of balancing water, oil, and an emulsifier carefully to get the desired result. Manufacturers need to get this part right, otherwise, they’ll be left with something totally different.

As mentioned, CBD creams are mainly water-based with some oil in there to thicken up the substance. CBD hemp extract is then infused into the mixture.

CBD cream product variations:

Most CBD cream variants are categorized by the additional ingredients used (as explained above) and the specialized treatment they can deliver.

  • CBD cream for muscles and joints
  • CBD cream for skin health

For best quality CBD creams, look for:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Beneficial ingredients for specialized relief
  • No harmful chemicals or synthetics
  • Ingredients listed on the product page
  • Hemp sourced from organic, non-GMO farms located in the US
  • Third-party testing (COA)
  • CO2 extraction method used for the extract
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract (includes THC)
  • CBD content (500-1000 mg preferred)

2. CBD Balm

CBD balms and salves are very similar. The only difference is the texture and how easily they rub into the skin and absorb. Balms are thicker and weightier on the skin. Salves are slightly softer. Both stay on the skin longer, trapping in moisture, as well as all the beneficial compounds and nutrients.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Thicker consistency — stays on skin longer
  • Easy to use
  • Large range of options

Cons:

  • Oil base can cause blocked pores (acne)

How to use:

CBD balms and salves are very easy to use. Like every other topical, you apply them to dry, clean skin for maximum results. CBD balm thickness requires a little bit of pressure, whereas a softer CBD salve requires less pressure. Both are thick enough to stay on the skin, so don’t use too much. You only need a small amount. Leave it for five minutes and rub in any excess still left on the skin’s surface.

Who can benefit?

CBD balms and salves are designed as a great alternative to thinner CBD creams and lotions. If you’re looking for a thick, CBD-rich topical, CBD balms and salves are worthy purchases.

How can CBD balms/salves help you?

The CBD content found in balms and salves may help with the following:

  • Post-workout relief (CBD soothes muscle & joint pain and inflammation)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (when applied to the skin using a CBD balm or salve)
  • Inflammatory skin diseases and scarring

Common ingredients found in CBD balms and salves to help with skin ailments:

  • Shea butter — anti-skin inflammation (reduces redness and some swelling), carries vitamin A & E (antioxidant), anti-bacterial
  • Hemp seed oil — abundant in omega-3 fatty acids (good for atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and general moisturization)
  • Coconut oil — increases hydration, reduces inflammation, good for eczema

How is it made?

CBD balms and salves are produced using a higher oil/water ratio, giving the products a thicker and more viscous consistency. CBD hemp extract is then added to the final mixture before being packaged.

CBD balm/salve product variations:

CBD balm and salve variations are commonly distinguished by their specialized ingredients to help with a number of ailments.

  • CBD balms and salves for muscle and joint pain
  • CBD balms and salves for post-workout relief
  • CBD balms and salves for skin health

For best quality CBD balms, look for:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Avoid alcohols or fragrances — can dry out the skin
  • High CBD content
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Hemp sourced from non-GMO, organic hemp farms (USA)
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party tested with Certificates of Analysis (COAs)

3. CBD Bath Bombs

CBD bath bombs (sometimes known as hemp-infused bath bombs) are becoming very popular. They’re just like regular bath bombs but with CBD infused into the formula.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Amazing aromas
  • Wide range of essential oils for healthier skin
  • Reasonably high CBD content

Cons:

  • Can cause vaginal pH imbalances
  • Red, itchy skin side-effects (if allergic)
  • Expensive compared to regular bath bombs

How to use:

A CBD bath bomb is one of the easiest (and most relaxing) ways to get CBD to your skin. You simply place one in a nice warm bath and witness the sizzle happen right before your eyes. We suggest waiting 5-10 minutes to allow the CBD bath bomb to dissolve fully. No need to place more than one bath bomb in at a time. One is more than enough. For best results, soak yourself in the bath for 20-30 minutes.

Who can benefit?

CBD bath bombs are a great way to relax and unwind in the evening. Just like regular ones, CBD bath bombs are aromatic, relaxing, and soothing, especially after a long day at work or after an intense workout.

How can CBD bath bombs help you?

Not much research on the effectiveness of CBD bath bombs, though many users believe the CBD hemp extract helps them with:

  • Skin moisturization and healing
  • Relaxation before bedtime (additional aromatic ingredients such as lavender and chamomile is useful here)
  • Energy (additional aromatic ingredients such as rosemary, lime, and grapefruit may help here)
  • Mild acne (topical application of CBD is said to affect sebocytes, which limits the amount of oil produced by the skin, resulting in less breakouts)

Note: There are some side-effects from CBD bath bombs. Alcohols and fragrances can dry out your skin or affect vaginal pH balance. You may also be allergic to some of the ingredients. Always check the label first.

How is it made?

CBD manufacturers combine beneficial essential oils, baking soda, cornstarch, salts, and citric acid along with high-quality CBD hemp extract. The baking soda and citric acid combined produces the famous “bath bomb sizzle”, while the essential oils and CBD hemp extract provide aromatic and physical skin benefits.

For best quality CBD bath bombs, look for:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • No alcohols or fragrances — can dry out skin
  • Avoid artificial dyes, benzene derivatives, and parabens
  • CBD content — higher CBD content for more severe skin complaints
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Hemp sourced from non-GMO, organic farms in the United States

4. CBD Lubricant

CBD lubricants are mostly designed for a smoother (for lack of a better phrase) sex life. Just like a regular lubricant, CBD lubricants help with vagina dryness and, by extension, penis friction. Some are oil-based, while others are water-based. You can even purchase dual-purpose lubricants and moisturizers.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Better sex life — lubricates genitals, stops dryness
  • Easy to apply
  • Suitable for beginners
  • Good for pH imbalance and thrush

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Low CBD content
  • Slightly gimmicky

How to use:

Using CBD lubricants is easy. You don’t need a lot. Simply squeeze 2-3 drops onto your vagina (and one on your penis for good luck) and rub it in gently 10-15 minutes before sex. If the friction is still there, add a drop or two more. You can also use CBD lubricants as a massage oil. The consistency is well-suited to your skin due to how easily spreadable it is.

Tip: Oil-based lubricants (CBD or otherwise) can degrade latex condoms, causing them to tear or break. Water-based is the superior choice.

Who can benefit?

CBD lubricants are best-suited to anyone experiencing thrush, vaginal pH imbalance, and/or friction during sex.

How can CBD lubricants help you?

Not only can CBD lubricants help you with thrush, vaginal pH imbalance, or friction during sex but it may also help with:

  • Promoting blood flow to the vagina, stimulating arousal and stronger orgasms
  • Vaginal muscle relaxation
  • Anal stimulation

Stress and anxiety are two of the main libido killers in men and women, as well as causing general sexual dysfunction. CBD lube won’t help with this but oral consumption or inhalation of CBD oils or CBD concentrates, respectively, may reduce stress and anxiety symptoms, resulting in an increased libido. We recommend combining either of these methods for maximum pleasure.

CBD lubricant product variations:

There aren’t many CBD lubricant variations, which is perfectly fine, to be honest. You need something that’s practical here. Some additional ingredients might be too harsh. All you need is a simple, straight-forward CBD lubricant that does the job.

For best CBD lubricant quality, look for:

  • Reputable CBD brand
  • No alcohols or fragrances — can dry out the vagina over time
  • No sugars or glycerin — can cause unwanted infections
  • Hemp sourced from organic, non-GMO farms (USA preferred)
  • CO2 hemp extraction method ideal
  • Third-party testing (COAs)

5. CBD Roll-On

CBD roll-ons are a convenient, easy-to-use method of “rolling” CBD onto your skin. They’re essentially CBD creams and balms but with a different way to apply it. The top end of the roll-on has a rolling ball that collects the CBD substance inside ready to be applied to your skin.

Note: CBD roll-ons are not deodorants or antiperspirants, even though the name may lead you to believe they are. Not to be used to combat body odor.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Easy to use, convenient
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Comes in a variety of strengths

Cons:

  • Difficult to dose
  • The rolling ball can get dirty

How to use:

Very simple. You just roll it into your skin the same way you would a roll-on deodorant stick. Make sure you apply it to dry, clean skin to allow the CBD to penetrate into your skin. Avoid using CBD roll-ons internally or near your eye region. Also, don’t consume the CBD substance orally. It’s designed for your skin only!

Tip: Roll gently but with a little bit of pressure.

Who can benefit?

CBD roll-ons are designed with convenience and ease of use in mind. Simple function. No brain-power needed. Great for athletes or gym-goers needing a quick dose of CBD to the skin, or anyone working in physically intense occupations (manual laborers, electricians, physical education teachers, etc).

How can CBD roll-on help you?

CBD roll-ons are just like any other topical. Relieves pain and inflammation in the muscles and joints, as well as alleviates skin complaints.

For best CBD roll-on quality, look for:

  • Hemp grown in the USA (organic, non-GMO)
  • CO2 extracted CBD hemp extract
  • All-natural, organic ingredients (no synthetics)
  • Ingredients list (product page)
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Third-party lab-testing with Certificate of Analysis

CBD Transdermals

CBD transdermal patches are technically CBD topical products but require a category all to themselves. CBD patches work very differently to other topicals insofar as their ability to penetrate through the skin and into the bloodstream. This alone is why CBD patches have grown in popularity. They’re also discrete, easy to use, and fast-acting.

CBD transdermal patches are best for anyone on-the-go and require a gradual, long-lasting, and effective dose of CBD (up to 24 hours). Useful for busy people who have tight, stressful work or study schedules. Also good for people who need relief from muscle pain and inflammation symptoms – athletes, gym-goers, exercise enthusiasts, and labor-intensive workers specifically.

1. CBD Patches

CBD patches are arguably the most effective CBD topical products you can find. Similar to medical or nicotine patches, CBD transdermal patches are designed to penetrate below the skin’s surface, allowing CBD (and other beneficial plant compounds) to enter into the bloodstream.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Convenient, discrete, and easy to use
  • Slow, gradual, pre-measured dose of CBD throughout the day
  • Can place it anywhere on the body – easy to hide
  • The only CBD topical product able to enter the bloodstream
  • Long-lasting

Cons:

  • Fairly expensive
  • Can peel off if exposed to moisture (sweat, etc)

How to use:

CBD patches are self-adhesive. You simply peel back the outer layer and stick it to your body, providing you with a steady release of CBD throughout the day. We recommend placing the patch on a venous part of the body (arm, leg, etc) for maximum effects. If you have specific physiological or physical pain/inflammation, place the patch directly on the area for targeted, localized relief.

Tip: Make sure the skin is dry and clean. Excess sweat and dirt may prevent the CBD and other ingredients from entering the skin efficiently. Don’t place on body areas such as knee caps or elbows.

Who can benefit?

CBD patches are for anyone looking for an effective, easy to use topical that’s discrete and able to give you a slow release of CBD throughout the day. Perfect for anyone on-to-go with a busy work or education schedule.

How can CBD patches help you?

CBD patches are arguably the most helpful CBD topical. Able to release 40-50% CBD (and other cannabinoids) into the bloodstream over time, resulting in potent but gradual relief from certain ailments such as:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Sleep and sleep related-issues issues (melatonin infusion is helpful here)
  • Energy (caffeine-infused patches are optimal here)
  • Pain and inflammation (place directly on the area of pain for maximum targeted relief)
  • General physiological relief (health and wellness)

Remember to purchase a full-spectrum CBD transdermal patch. Carries a large number of beneficial cannabinoids (CBN, CBC, CBDV THC, etc) alongside terpenes. Both types of compounds work together to provide your body with enhanced effects and benefits.

How is it made?

The process for making CBD transdermal patches is complex and requires intricate manufacturing techniques. Typically composed of 3-5 layers,. The most important being the strip with a permeable membrane that gets fed a predetermined measurement of CBD-infused liquid or gel. The back layer is impermeable to stop it from leaking. A quality adhesive layer is placed on top of both.

CBD patch product variations

There are two types of CBD transdermal patches:

  • Reservoir — preferred option, carries a permeable rate-control membrane, delivers accurate, precise, and periodic CBD dosing
  • Maxtrix — no permeable rate-control membrane, “matrix” layer contains CBD, absorbs into the skin directly

We recommend CBD reservoir patches over matrix patches. Better for more accurate dosing.

For best CBD patch quality, look for:

  • Manufactured in USA-owned facilities (preferably)
  • Specialized ingredients (melatonin for sleep, etc)
  • Hypoallergenic material used
  • Patch quality (no tampering, tears, or rips)
  • USA-grown hemp (organic, non-GMO)
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Third-party testing

Inhalable CBD

Inhalable CBD products such as vape juice and flower are often referred to as the most effective ways of delivering CBD into your body. When you smoke, dab, or vaporize CBD, you experience the effects and benefits immediately, as opposed to capsules or gummies. Good for users looking for immediate relief from symptoms ranging between mild and severe.

Vaping CBD is amazing for a wide range of users. If you’re busy and on-the-go, CBD vape juice is perfect for an immediate hit. Just two or three puffs should be enough to get a quick anti-anxiety, stress, pain, inflammation, etc, fix. Make sure the strength is high enough – 250-500mg bottle is recommended for beginners, 750-1000+ mg for more seasoned users. Broad or full-spectrum preferred.

Smoking CBD hemp flower is a great all-rounder but requires a little more discretion. The aroma is very similar to high-THC marijuana and may attract attention. CBD flower carries the natural essence of hemp with very little human manipulation. Good for all types of symptoms (mild-to-severe), though we primarily use it for anxiety, insomnia, or pain depending on the strain. Typically high cannabinoid and terpene content.

1. CBD Vape Juice

No CBD arsenal is complete without vape juice, a product designed exclusively for refillable vape pens. Very popular among both vaping and health enthusiasts. Comes in a range of strengths and flavors to satisfy just about anyone who wants to give vaping CBD a go. Combines propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (PG)—both naturally-sourced and deemed safe to consume—with CBD hemp extract. Very effective. Instant relief (similar to smoking). Comes in a variety of bottle sizes (10mL–100mL+) with an easy to use dropper/squeezer.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Fast-acting
  • Immediate relief
  • Large variety of strengths and flavors

Cons:

  • Requires initial investment (vape kit, etc)
  • Can cause mild lung/respiratory irritation

How to use:

CBD vape juice is pretty easy to use but not overly convenient. You first need a suitable vape pen or vape kit, a modern refillable 510 thread vape preferably.

Note: Disposable CBD vape pens are unsuitable here. You cannot refill disposable vape tanks with CBD vape juice. You throw them away instead, hence why they’re “disposable”.

Who can benefit?

CBD vape juices are for anyone looking to get into the world of vaping CBD. Many strengths and flavors to choose from.

How can CBD vape juice help you?

CBD vape juice is inhalable (via a vape pen or kit). Very effective. Travels through the lung’s tiny microcapillaries and into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive tract and liver altogether. This results in better CBD absorption and more pronounced immediate effects.

How is it made?

CBD vape juice is commonly by mixing propylene glycol and CBD hemp extract first into a container first. The container is then shaken and stirred (usually with advanced machinery and equipment) to allow the CBD hemp extract to blend into the propylene glycol. Once that’s done, vegetable glycerin and flavorings are added to the final mix.

CBD vape juice product variations:

CBD vape juice variations are determined by the VG/PG ratio, as well as the flavorings and CBD content.

VG/PG ratio variants include but are not limited to:

  • 50/50 VG/PG ratio CBD vape juice — fairly balanced “throat hit” and juice thickness, reasonably sweet taste
  • 70/30 VG/PG ratio CBD vape juice — smooth throat hit, larger vape cloud, thicker juice
  • 70/30 PG/VG — pronounced throat hit, small vape cloud, thin juice
  • 100% VG — very smooth throat hit, very big vape cloud, very sweet
  • 100% PG — very strong throat hit, very small vape cloud, thin juice

For best CBD vape juice quality, look for:

  • VG/PG inclusion and ratio
  • No oils — can cause harm to your lungs
  • No nicotine
  • High-quality, organic, non-GMO hemp extract (USA)
  • CO2 extracted
  • Third-party tested (Certificates of Analysis)

2. Pre-filled CBD Vape Cartridges

Pre-filled CBD cartridges (also known as disposable cartridges) are one-use cartridges/tanks already loaded with CBD vape juice. Very suitable for beginners.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Good for beginners — easy to use
  • Fast-acting and immediate effects
  • Pre-loaded with CBD vape juice — convenient
  • Wide range of strengths and flavors

Cons:

  • Expensive in the long-term (buying individual CBD vape juice is more cost-effective)
  • Not slow-releasing — not suited to anyone needing a gradual dose of CBD

How to use:

Pre-filled CBD vape cartridges typically carry a wick and a cylindrical coil with 510 threading designed to be used with 510 batteries. Simply screw the cartridge onto the battery, push the power button on the side of the battery, and inhale. Take short, sharp breaths to test out the throat hit before doing deeper inhales.

Note: Pre-filled CBD cartridges are not the same as CBD pods. CBD pods are not compatible with 510 batteries. If you want to use CBD pods, you need to purchase a JUUL device.

Who can benefit?

Pre-filled CBD cartridges are designed with beginners in mind. Easy to use and convenient. You don’t have to fill them up yourself, the manufacturer/brand does it for you instead. Good choice for anyone looking to get into CBD vaping without investing money into expensive vape kits. They’re almost like a try-before-you-buy.

Tip: Many CBD brands offer bundled pre-filled CBD cartridges with three or four different vape juice flavors at a lower price. We recommend purchasing this to get a feel for what flavor you’d like in the long-term.

How can pre-filled CBD cartridges help you?

CBD vape cartridges carry the same CBD vape juice we mentioned in the section above. CBD vape juice provides immediate benefits, effects, and relief. A couple of puffs in the morning, afternoon and/or at night is perfect here.

We recommend a full-spectrum CBD vape cartridge for almost immediate relief from:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Pain (chronic or neurological)
  • Inflammation
  • Sleep issues (terpenes with 0.3% THC works well here)
  • General relaxation (again terpenes with CBD and THC is useful here)
  • General health and wellness

Pre-filled CBD cartridge product variations:

Pre-filled CBD cartridges with 510 threading are the most common (and most popular) CBD product variant. Other CBD cartridges are less convenient, simply because 510 batteries are so easy to find.

You can find a huge number of CBD cartridges filled with various flavor options such as:

  • Cannabis strain flavors (OG Kush, Pineapple Express, etc)
  • Strawberry
  • Citrus (Lemon & Lime)
  • Cookies & Cream

For best CBD cartridge quality, look for:

  • Manufactured in USA or Europe (preferably)
  • Hemp sourced from organic, non-GMO USA hemp farms
  • CO2 extraction method
  • Third-party tested
  • Full-spectrum hemp extract
  • Once purchased, store in cool, dark, dry place

3. CBD Flower

CBD flower is dried and cured bud of hemp plants. It’s seen as the most natural way of consuming CBD. No extraction methods used. You get the best of hemp with very little processing. Hemp flower is different from marijuana/medical cannabis flower. Carries 10-20% CBD on average with <0.3% THC.

Learn more

Pros:

  • The most natural way to consume CBD
  • Fast-acting, effective, and immediate relief
  • Very potent (especially when smoked or vaped)
  • Pure hemp taste (terpene profiles, etc)
  • A lot of product choice (various different strains)

Cons:

  • Not suitable for beginners (CBD oils or capsules are more suitable)
  • Smoking CBD hemp flower is off-putting to some users
  • Not discrete
  • Produces a pungent aroma

How to use:

CBD flower is surprisingly versatile. Common ways to consume it are via vaping, smoking, or juicing.

Smoking requires pre-roll-papers, a crutch (filter), and some knowledge of how to roll.

Vaping is trickier. You need a vaping device able to reach 340-360 degrees Fahrenheit for milder effects or 400 degrees Fahrenheit for stronger effects. Requires the right vaping device able to reach the optimal temperature. Something like a dry herb vaporizer with a temperature adjuster, airflow control, and quick heating + cooling cycles.

We recommend placing 1.5-3 grams of CBD flower into the vape chamber (make sure to grind it up sufficiently first).

Juicing raw CBD flower is simply blending it (literally with a machine) with other ingredients or on its own, resulting in a smoothie-like beverage. Because no heat is involved, you not only consume CBD, CBG, etc, but you also ingest valuable precursor acids as well e.g. CBDA, THCA, CBGA, etc.

Each precursor acid has its own unique physiological benefits for a more well-rounded hemp-derived experience.

Who can benefit?

CBD flower is a seasoned CBD user’s best friend. Beginners tend to shy away, which is a shame, to be honest. The effects of CBD flower (smoked and vaped) are fast-acting and immediate. Should be a go-to for anyone wanting the full, natural hemp experience.

How can CBD flower help you?

Smoking and vaping CBD is the most effective. Both delivery methods produce the greatest results for your mind and body.

You consume a full range of cannabinoids (CBD, THC, CBN, CBC, etc), terpenes (linalool, limonene, myrcene, etc), flavonoids (canflavine, vitexin, etc), waxes, lipids, and alcohols all at the same. All work together in synergy (entourage effect). Produces enhanced relief from:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Pain and inflammation (chronic, neurological, acute, etc)
  • Sleep and sleep-related disorders (insomnia, etc)
  • Stress
  • Mood problems
  • Energy

Juicing CBD flower is also very effective but in a different way. No heat required for juicing. This way, you consume precursor acids such as CBDA and THCA.

  • CBDA is said to have anti-anxiety and depression qualities
  • THCA is known for its anti-nausea and vomiting qualities, as well as reducing pain and inflammation.

Useful CBD hemp flower strains:

1. CBD hemp flower strains for anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms:

  • Bubba Kush
  • Sour Space Candy
  • Sour Tsunami

2. Strains for pain and inflammation:

  • Hawaiian Haze
  • Elektra

3. Strains for sleep and sleep-related issues:

  • The Wife
  • Special Sauce

4. Strains for stress and mood enhancement

  • Lifter Plus

5. Strains for an energetic buzz:

  • Suver Haze
  • Frosted Lime

How is it made?

CBD manufacturers, brands, and growers pick the best-quality hemp first after harvest is complete. The chosen hemp is dried and cured for 5-7 days. The flowers/buds are then cut and packaged ready to be purchased.

CBD flower product variations:

CBD flower variations are determined by the strain (terpene and cannabinoid profiles, genetic, etc).

Common and effective CBD flower strains include:

  • Special Sauce
  • Lifter
  • Bubba Kush
  • Elektra

For best CBD flower quality, look for:

  • High cannabinoid and terpene percentage
  • Third-party tested (COA)
  • USA-grown
  • Farmed and cultivated on reputable, organic, non-GMO farms with strict safety standards
  • Once purchased, check for any fungi or mold (if present, don’t smoke)

4. CBD Pre-Rolls

CBD pre-rolls are pre-rolled spliffs or joints made using special rolling papers, crutches (filters), and high-quality CBD hemp flower. Very convenient. No need to roll it yourself. Mostly available in packs of 3, 5, or 10.

Learn more

Pros:

  • Pre-made — very convenient
  • Fast-acting and very effective
  • Many pre-roll variants (strains)
  • The most natural way to consume hemp-derived compounds

Cons:

  • Difficult to tell the quality of the hemp flower without pulling the pre-roll apart
  • Expensive in the long-run

How to use:

With CBD pre-rolls, there’s no need to roll it yourself (it’s already done for you). Simply put the CBD pre-roll to your mouth and light it up. Very easy.

Tip: To know if your CBD pre-roll joint is high-quality before you smoke it, try the “dry-pull” method. Place the unlit pre-roll between your lips and suck in deeply. Good quality CBD pre-rolls will have a strong hemp flavor rich in terpenes.

Who can benefit?

CBD pre-rolls are perfect for beginners wanting to experience CBD flower but have no idea how to roll an adequate joint. Pre-rolls, as the name suggests, are already made for you to smoke. No need to roll them yourself.

How can CBD pre-rolls help you?

CBD pre-rolls contain CBD hemp flower, commonly viewed as the most natural and potent as of consuming CBD, as well as other cannabinoids (THC, CBN, CBC, CBG), terpenes (myrcene, caryophyllene, limonene), etc. Very effective for alleviating a whole range of symptoms, especially when all the plant compounds work together in synergy (entourage effect).

Mant users smoke pre-rolled CBD hemp joints or spliffs for:

  • Anxiety and anxiety-related symptoms
  • Pain and inflammation (acute, chronic, neurological)
  • Sleep and sleep-related issues (insomnia, etc)
  • Arthritis
  • Mood-enhancement
  • General relaxation, health, and/or wellness

How is it made?

After the hemp is picked from the harm after cultivation/ harvest, it’s then dried and cured for 5-7 days. Once drying and curing are complete, the hemp flower/buds are cut from the plant. The bud/flower is ground into very small chunks and rolled into a pre-roll joint using specialized rolling papers and a clutch. The pre-roll should be cone-shaped for an easier smoke.

CBD pre-roll product variations:

CBD pre-roll joint variants are distinguished by the strain of CBD hemp flower used. Common CBD hemp flower strains include:

  • Lifter
  • Lifter Plus
  • Grandaddy Purple

For best CBD pre-rolls quality, look for:

  • Hemp flower cultivated on organic, non-GMO farms located in the US
  • Dried and cured for 5-7 days
  • Picked by expert growers
  • Lab-tested with Certificates of Analysis
  • Rich, deep hempy aroma and flavor
  • Cone-shaped
  • Burns evenly when smoked

Insertable CBD

Insertable and internally-used CBD products are the least common on the market, simply because the idea of placing CBD inside yourself (for lack of a better phrase) is slightly off-putting.

Regardless, this category shouldn’t be overlooked. CBD suppositories are ideal for rectal or vaginal pain. Fast-acting and long-lasting. Not particularly convenient or simple to use but effective nonetheless.

Overall, CBD suppositories are ideal for anyone looking for a discreet but effective CBD product. Its gradual relief from pain and inflammation in your sensitive areas is perfect all throughout the day. Great choice for busy individuals working in an office or studying at college or university. Also good for social events, recreational activities, or sporting events. No need to top-up the dose every hour or two e.g. vaping. Only requires insertion and that’s it.

1. CBD Suppositories

CBD suppositories are very useful but not commonly used. They come as little bullet or rocket looking things (almost similar to tampons) designed to be administered vaginally or rectally for targeted relief internally.

Pros:

  • Effective, targeted and localized internal relief
  • Fast-acting
  • Long-lasting
  • High CBD content

Cons:

  • Application can be uncomfortable
  • Somewhat inconvenient

How to use:

Run the tablet or capsule under warm water. Make sure the water isn’t too hot for obvious reasons. You don’t want the irony of making a product designed to help with rectal inflammation give you rectal inflammation.

You have the choice of two positions: lie on your side with your bent or lie on your back with your knees up close to your chest. The latter is more effective with rectal insertion.

Relax your butt or vagina. Put the tapered end of the suppository in first. Don’t ram it in. Do it gently to avoid any pain. Make sure you put it in high enough. If it slips out, you haven’t inserted it sufficiently.

Once it’s successfully inserted, don’t immediately get up. Lie there for a few minutes and wait for it to dissolve.

Who can benfit?

Suppositories are designed for anyone looking to get internal relief from specific internal ailments related primarily to your rectum or vagina. Not usually a go-to for beginners, to be honest, unless it’s absolutely necessary.

CBD Decor

CBD decor is rare. Many see it as gimmicky and useless, which (to be perfectly honest) is mostly accurate. Many CBD brands are capitalizing on the CBD trend with pointless decor products to make a quick buck.

However, the one CBD decor product type we actually enjoy are CBD candles. Known for their aromatic qualities (thanks to terpenes and essential oils), CBD candles are a fantastic addition to your home. Ideal during bathtime for extra relaxation (CBD candles with lavender are useful here).

CBD decor (candles) are perfect for anyone wanting a hemp-derived experience without having to ingest it or place it on the skin. They’re aromatically useful for very mild relaxation or anti-stress. Perfect for those working from home. Simply light one up and enjoy the relaxing scent.

1. CBD candles

Hemp-derived CBD candles are regular, everyday candles infused with CBD oil and essential oils. Unlike other CBD products, the main compounds here are terpenes for their aromatically therapeutic qualities. Some candles carry a carefully selected mix of the right terpenes for different moods and some relief.

Pros:

  • Amazing aromas
  • Lots of choice (many different scents and aromas)
  • Nice decorative piece for your home

Cons:

  • Aromatherapy might not be good enough for your health and wellness requirements
  • The aromas can be overwhelming

How to use:

Simply take a match or a lighter and light the wick at the top of the candle. No need to do anything else. Remember to extinguish the flame after every use to avoid setting your house on fire if it tips over.

Tip: If you purchase a soy wax CBD candle, you can use the burned wax as a massage oil, providing your skin with moisturization and relief.

Who can benefit?

CBD candles are for everyone. They’re a great decorative addition to your house or apartment. A relatively good alternative to regular candles, though watch out for the price. The cost can be significantly more.

How can CBD candles help you?

CBD candles aren’t miracle workers but they do provide some level of aromatherapy (to what level is another story for another time). The mixture of terpenes and other essential oils can elicit a response from certain receptors in the brain, triggering relaxation, mood, and stress responses.

Terpenes to look out for when purchasing CBD candles include:

  • Myrcene — earthy, musky, and deep (clove-like aroma), may produce sedation + relaxation
  • Linalool — sweet, flowery, may produce calming effects
  • Limonene — citrusy, lemon-like, sweet, may produce mood-enhancing effects

Other essential oils to look out for when purchasing CBD candles include:

  • Lavender —  good for sleep, relaxation
  • Rosemary — rich, wood-like aroma, good for stress-relief and energy
  • Ginger — warm, rich aroma, good for stress, energy, and fatigue

How is it made?

CBD candles are made the same way regular candles are made (beeswax, soy, essential oils, etc) but with CBD hemp extract or CBD oil included in the creation process.

For best CBD candle quality, look for:

  • All-natural ingredients
  • No synthetics
  • Hemp extract/CBD oil sourced from organic, non-GMO hemp farms
  • High terpene profile
  • Hemp-derived (not marijuana-derived)
  • Ethically-sourced beeswax (soy wax good alternative)
