Kiva Camino Gummies Review

Kiva is one of the biggest players in the edible game and their Camino product is further proof of why they dominate whatever category they’re in, especially gummies. This product line comes in eight different flavors, each with a specific mood or intention in mind.

For this review, we tried their Social, Bliss, and Sleep gummies to get a wide variety of CBD to THC ratios, and to put each different type of gummy to the test.

Camino Gummies (extended review)

Kiva Camino Gummies are one of the most user-friendly and well-executed edible products on the market. Kiva has been around since 2010, far before legalization occurred in California. They’re known for their THC-infused chocolate bars, but they expanded their product line in the last couple years to include Camino gummies.

What started as three humble flavors grew into a portfolio of eight drool-worthy options with a wide range of desired effects, including their new “Sleep” gummy with CBN. More on that later.

Kiva recently gave their Camino gummies a packaging upgrade, moving from those annoying double zippered pouches that are precariously hard to open, to a sleek, more user-friendly yet still child-proof tin. The small and round packaging is now so inconspicuous it might as well be a tin of Altoids coming out of your pocket or purse.

Aesthetically, the Camino gummies packaging really draws you in. The term “Camino” is in honor of the historic El Camino Real, a 600-mile road in California that showcases the state’s diverse beauty. Kiva says, “Each flavor of Camino was designed to transport you to a specific location and put you in a ‘California State of Mind,’” and the packaging accurately reflects this.

Each flavor gummy has its own potency, but none contain more than 5mg THC per serving. This mild dosage makes this product perfect for users of any experience level. Take one gummy for more of a microdose or if you are a beginner, or safely increase your dosage until your desired effect – just remember that edibles take some time to kick in. Kiva recommends you start with one gummy and wait two hours for your high to take effect if you haven’t used their product before.

Kiva’s original product demand came from medicinal patients, which is one of the reasons they didn’t expand into more CBD-focused products until 2018, debatably after the “CBD Boom” started. Like any new product the company introduces, they wanted to be 100% certain about every aspect of the process before releasing a product. Stick with Kiva, and you will always experience quality over quantity.

While there are still only a few CBD-focused products in Kiva’s line, they are all cannabis-derived – no hemp here. This is the smartest move from Kiva, since it’s been proven that cannabis-derived CBD gives the user more of the plant’s benefits than CBD derived from hemp. This does eliminate those that get drug tested as potential users, but if you ask me, there are plenty of other hemp-derived CBD companies out there to choose from for those in that type of situation.

Kiva’s chocolate products are all made using cold water hash, which is debatably one of the safest and most effective methods of extraction, despite being expensive. After a comprehensive Google search, it’s unclear if they use the same method for the Camino gummies. Instead of providing detailed information on the method of extraction for the gummies, Kiva focuses on their inclusion of “carefully curated terpenes” unique to each flavor.

Whether you’re “going to a rooftop party,” “settling in for a smooth slumber in a cozy lake cabin,” or “transforming your day into a weekend in wine country,” there is a Camino gummy flavor for you. We tried three flavors: Midnight Blueberry (Sleep), Watermelon Lemonade (Bliss), and Sparkling Pear (Social).

The taste of each was absolutely superior – the flavor names were accurate, and the taste of cannabis was practically untraceable. If you’ve ever had an edible that straight up tasted like you were chewing on a nug, then you know how important flavor is for a cannabis gummy. Let’s break down each flavor we tried.

Camino Sparkling Pear: Social

If I had one complaint, it would be the “activation time” as I like to call it. I ate two gummies, and they took about an hour and a half to kick in. That is the price of doing edibles, but I do hope this product shifts to a more fast-acting absorption at some point.

As someone who occasionally feels some anxiety around social situations, this would be the perfect flavor to enjoy if you’re heading to an event where you might not know anyone, or going somewhere where you need to be extra social and peppy – just remember how long it takes to kick in and plan accordingly.

Camino Midnight Blueberry: Sleep

This flavor of Camino gummy has 1mg CBN per serving. CBN is one of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis, but it’s known for its deep sleep properties. As someone who has been studying the effect (or lack thereof) of popular CBD edibles promoting deep sleep, this formulation makes me really happy, because it proves Kiva has done their research.

I have had multiple friends consult me on CBD products that are good for sleep. Every single one of them was “THC-adverse” as I’d like to call it, so they wanted products that were 100% CBD. I finally convinced one of my THC-adverse friends to incorporate a CBD edible that included THC, and she had never had a more restful sleep. Ah, just one of the many benefits of full spectrum products.

The 5mg THC per serving is a great ratio to CBN, and Kiva really brought it all home by including terpenes with hints of chamomile and lavender, two flowers known for their relaxing properties. As someone who has a racing mind at night more often than not, this gummy has been a game changer.

Camino Watermelon Lemonade: Bliss

The taste had me feeling like I was sipping an actual watermelon lemonade on the beach. The high made me feel that way, too. Bliss is definitely the correct word to describe the effect of this flavor. As a matter of fact I tried a gummy right before starting this article, and I’m feeling more blissed out than one would imagine when just sitting in front of their computer on a Google doc. Kiva uses both indica and sativa terpenes to create our “bliss blend,” and let me tell you, it’s a formula worth repeating.

Bottom Line

Overall, I could not recommend Kiva Camino gummies more. They have a flavor for everyone and every occasion. The only downside in my eyes with edibles themselves – I’ve found that the intensity and activation time can change depending on what you’ve eaten and when. Kiva launched a few seasonal products back in the Winter like hot chocolate mix that are “fast acting” and kick in within 15 minutes – maybe someday they’ll transfer that technology to Camino gummies.
