Related Picks: Strongest Delta-9 THC Gummies
Whether you want to manage your pain, make it easier to get to sleep, or just have a little bit of fun, it’s easier than ever to get some THC these days. Although gummies get a lot of the attention, many brands also carry capsules, tablets and softgels for a convenient dose. Most softgels are basically bite-sized doses of THC oil – the same effects with less sugar and over-the-top flavorings.
We’ve scoured the internet for THC capsules, and ranked them for safety, efficacy and reliability using our expert-backed framework. These four came out on top.
What Makes a THC Capsule Effective?
Other cannabinoids matter
All of the capsules in this list had to contain at least 1.5 mg THC, but that’s not the only thing we were looking for. Other cannabinoids like CBD, CBG and CBC can round out and improve the experience.
The terpene blend
Like other cannabinoids, terpenes add to the overall experience. Linalool and myrcene give a relaxing high, or limonene and pinene are uplifting.
Avoid THCV
In low doses, THCV counteracts the effects of THC we’re looking for. Higher doses can work, but for this list, we just tried to avoid THCV wherever possible.
Delta-9 is king
Delta-9 THC is the most likely THC to be naturally produced. Delta-8 THC is good for its milder effects, but generally not as safe because of how it’s produced.
From a starting pool of 40 THC capsules found online, we used our Cannabinoid Product Quality Evaluation framework to find the very best. These three scored the highest.
Medterra Max Relief Full Spectrum Capsules

- CBD type: Full spectrum
- Potency: 50 mg CBD, 2 mg THC per capsule
- CBD:THC ratio: 25:1
- Top terpenes: Not tested
- Price: $109.99 for 60 capsules ($0.037 per mg CBD, $0.92 per mg THC)
- Coupon: “FLASH50VIP” for 50% off
Medterra’s Max Relief Full Spectrum Capsules comes out on top of this list because they strike a balance between quality and THC content. With 2 mg of THC per capsule, they offer just enough for you to notice a single dose, and taking two or three can work recreationally.
The capsules also contain 50 mg CBD, 5 mg CBG, 3 mg CBC and 1 mg CBN, making them truly full spectrum. The high CBG content is especially useful, pairing well with THC for recreational use, but also having documented anti-inflammatory effects. They weren’t tested for terpenes, though.
With solid quality control and manufacturing, a good cannabinoid selection and a competitive price, these are the best all-round THC capsules we found.
- Full spectrum: CBD, CBG, CBC, THC and CBN
- 2 mg THC per capsule
- High CBG makes them great for inflammatory pain
- Good price per mg of CBD and THC
- Hemp Authority Certified – top-quality manufacturing
- 50 mg CBD per capsule
- Seed to sale brand
- Not tested for terpenes
- Not USDA Organic hemp
Carmen’s Medicinals CBD Capsules – 50 mg

- CBD type: Full spectrum
- Potency: 50 mg CBD, 1.7 mg THC
- CBD:THC ratio: ~29:1
- Top terpenes: Limonene
- Price: $64.95 for 30 capsules ($0.043 per mg CBD, $1.27 per mg THC)
- Coupon: “CART40” for 40% off
Carmen’s Medicinals’ 50 mg CBD Capsules are mainly focused on offering CBD, but with 1.7 mg of THC per capsule, they can work as a THC capsule too.
The capsules hit on many of the key factors we’re looking for in a THC capsule. They have about 1.6 mg per capsule of CBG, and combined with the limonene in the mix, they offer a light, uplifting high. However, as with some of the other capsules on this list, you’d have to take a few for a standard recreational dose.
Carmen’s Medicinals also use, single-strain, single-origin, USDA Certified Organic hemp for their extracts, and have GMP-certified manufacturing. The quality is hard to beat, but the price could be a bit better.
- USDA Certified Organic hemp
- 1.7 mg THC per capsule
- True full spectrum: CBD, THC, CBG and CBN
- Limonene for an uplifting effect
- 50 mg CBD and 1.6 mg CBG per capsule
- Seed to sale brand
- Low THC dose
- Price could be better
R&R Multifunctional CBD Softgels

- CBD type: Full spectrum
- Potency: 60 mg CBD, 1.6 mg THC per capsule
- CBD:THC ratio: 37.5:1
- Top terpenes: Bisabolol, guaiol, beta-caryophyllene, nerolidol
- Price: $78 / 34 softgels ($0.038 per mg CBD, $1.43 per mg THC)
- Coupon: “LEAF15” for 15% off

R&R’s Multifunctional CBD Softgels are intended as a full spectrum CBD product. However, with 1.6 mg of THC per softgel, they’re a solid option for getting a THC dose too.
These softgels got the highest score on the framework, thanks to their USDA certified organic hemp, high-quality manufacturing and the extensive lab testing conducted by R&R. However, the 1.6 mg dose is a little low if you’re looking for THC specifically, so they didn’t deserve the spot at the top of the rankings.
But they do have a fantastic selection of cannabinoids. With 2.8 mg CBC per capsule as well as a solid 60 mg of CBD, they work really well. Overall, they’re better medically than recreationally.
- USDA Certified Organic hemp
- True full spectrum: CBD, CBC, THC, CBN, CBG, CBL
- Rich in terpenes
- Great for medical use
- Seed to sale brand
- Three potency options: 30, 60 or 90 mg CBD
- Quite low in THC
- Not the best terpenes to support THC
Other Products We Considered

Our original list had 40 different THC capsules, but most of these didn’t make it through to full scoring. We used some key criteria from our Cannabinoid Product Quality Evaluation framework to discount products which didn’t meet the minimum standards of safety and transparency that we’re looking for.
The most common reasons for this were:
- Not fully safety tested: Safety testing is important for exactly the reason you think it is. Without 3rd-party testing for pesticides, residual solvents, heavy metals, microbial contamination and mycotoxins, we can’t confirm the product is safe to use. 12 products were discounted because they weren’t “full panel” safety tested.
- Old lab report: We require a lab report from within the last 12 months to consider a product. Most CBD and THC products are safe to use for longer than this, but concentrations degrade over time. After a year, it’s unlikely the product on the shelf is the same as shown in the lab report. 11 products had a lab test that was over a year old.
- No verifiable lab report: 3 products didn’t have an accessible lab report at all. Requiring a batch number to access a lab report prevents consumers from checking before they buy. Another 4 had a lab report which couldn’t be confirmed via QR code.
After a few other disqualifications, 12 products made it through to full scoring. Of these, Hometown Hero, Five, Plus CBD, Bluebird Botanicals, Canna River, and Papa and Barkley scored well, but not enough to make the list.
Methodology

- Expert insights: We spoke to experts in cannabis and THC about recreational hemp THC products for our list of the best delta-9 gummies. We used the same criteria derived from those interviews to guide the product selection for this list.
- Market research: We performed an automated Bing search for “THC capsules,” and took the URLs and scraped text from the first 250 results. In addition to direct search results, we also used Oracle’s algorithm to scrape relevant internal links and add them to the list of potential products.
- AI-assisted product selection: The spreadsheet of URLs and webpage text was given to ChatGPT, alongside the criteria derived from expert interviews. The model was tasked with choosing up to two suitable products per brand. The output from the model was checked manually by Oracle staff, who chose one suitable softgel, tablet or capsule per brand, where possible.
- Qualifying and scoring: The list was then searched for qualifiers, as described in “Other Products We Considered.” Any qualifying products were scored on our full framework, and any products scoring over 80% were eligible for inclusion in the final list.
