What Makes a Good Broad Spectrum CBD Oil?
Multiple cannabinoids
A crucial benefit of broad spectrum CBD oils over isolates is that they include other (non-THC) cannabinoids. The addition of CBN, CBG, CBC and other cannabinoids is a crucial benefit we looked out for in making this list.
Rich in terpenes

This is as close as you can get to an iron-clad guarantee of high-quality manufacturing, with requirements well beyond simple GMP certification or our framework.

Although CBDfx’s Wellness 2:1 Tincture technically didn’t make the cut, the oil does a fantastic job if you’re looking for a broad spectrum oil that can help with pain relief.
Firstly, the Wellness 2:1 Tincture offers a range of CBD doses that makes it easy to find your ideal level, it also boosts the CBD with CBG in a 2:1 ratio. This anti-inflammatory cannabinoid is also boosted by curcumin – the active ingredient of turmeric – which further boosts its anti-inflammatory potential. The cannabinoid selection is rounded out with smaller amounts of CBDV, CBN and CBC. But unfortunately, it wasn’t tested for terpenes.
The price is a little high for the weakest strengths, but it gets better for the stronger oils.

Other Broad Spectrum CBD Oils We Considered
Our initial list included 58 broad spectrum CBD oils, but only two fully made the cut for this list. Most oils were discounted because of some crucial things we look for in any hemp product we recommend. Generally speaking, we only recommend products with a verifiable lab report from the past year and that are proven to be genuinely broad spectrum.
Specifically, we discounted:
- 22 oils that had old lab reports: These oils had lab reports, but they were over 12 months old. This means one of two things: either the company does not lab test every batch, or the oil itself has been on the shelves for so long that the report will no longer be accurate. In either case, we can’t recommend these.
- 17 oils didn’t have full panel safety testing: Any oil we recommend must be tested for heavy metals, residual solvents, pesticides, microbial contamination and mycotoxins. These oils didn’t have this, with most just being tested for potency.
- 15 oils weren’t confirmed to be broad spectrum: Broad (or full) spectrum hemp products should contain at least 4 cannabinoids and be at least tested for terpenes. Most of these weren’t tested for terpenes, but 4 were actually either isolates or only contained a few cannabinoids.
- 9 didn’t have a lab test available: These oils either didn’t seem to have a lab test or required a lot/batch number to view it. In these cases, we cannot confirm safety or that the oil is truly broad spectrum.
Note that some oils failed multiple checks. The remaining three oils were scored in full, with cbdMD’s failing to meet our 80% cutoff. However, this is still a high-quality CBD oil.
Methodology: How We Picked the Best THC-Free Oils
Expert insights: We determined what to look for in a THC-free CBD oil from our interviews with experts in cannabinoid medicine. In particular, our interviews about CBD for anxiety and CBD for pain were used for this list.
Market research and analysis: We conducted an automated internet search (using Bing) for “broad spectrum cbd oil” (with some negative terms to exclude other lists) and took the URLs and relevant internal links from the top 250 results. We scraped the text from these pages, and gave the URLs and text to an LLM alongside our expert-derived criteria. The LLM was tasked with choosing up to two matching products per brand. Oracle staff manually checked the output and chose one product per brand to consider for the list.
Qualifying and scoring: We went through the process detailed in the previous section to produce a shortlist of oils from the 58 initial options. Only three oils got through these checks. These were then scored on our full Cannabinoid Product Quality Evaluation Framework.
Final ranking: Any oils scoring over 80% on our framework received a full recommendation. The remaining oil was included, but only as an honorable mention.
