The stress the world is experiencing right now is immense. Almost all of us have been directly impacted by COVID-19, and the world feels like its standing still. If you’re experiencing anxiety surrounding the current pandemic and the uncertainty it has brought, don’t worry: we’re all in the same boat here. Thankfully, there’s a chance that CBD may be able to help us.

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is one of the most abundant chemical compounds, or cannabinoids, found with cannabis plant varieties. This specific cannabinoid is completely non-psychoactive and is primarily relied on for its therapeutic, medicinal purposes. Though research is currently limited, we’ve seen significant evidence that CBD may be able to reduce our generalized anxieties, especially during the current state of our world.

CBD is mainly used for medicinal purposes, known for containing relaxing, calming properties, each one as beneficial as the next. With all of these uses, CBD’s comprehensive effects have the potential to do wonders for our minds and bodies. To get more specific, we’ve discussed in detail about how some of CBD’s main functions can help us most during these uncertain times.

Creating Internal Balance

CBD is often utilized within the health and wellness industry for its ability to help us achieve internal balance. Otherwise known as homeostasis, this internal balance refers to the equilibrium of our hormones, enzymes, fluids, temperatures, and more. Essentially, when everything within our bodies are working as they should, we’ve reached homeostasis and are able to feel our absolute best. When we reach this state, having a clear, focused mind and motivated actions are easy. Unfortunately, homeostasis itself, especially right now, isn’t.

Even the littlest bit of stress can throw off our internal functions, ruining homeostasis. Achieving that balance in the first place can be tough, so learning that CBD can help is quite the relief.

CBD has been known to work directly with our bodies’ endocannabinoid system, or the ECS. The ECS is responsible for regulating myriads of processes throughout our bodies, with endocannabinoids being some of the most widespread signaling molecules we have. Just some of these functions of the ECS include regulating appetite, anxiety, pain, mood, and even sleep. Adding CBD into the mix, then, can be incredible.

CBD, as a cannabinoid itself, functions by working directly with ECS to help it produce or inhibit the molecules it needs to get itself back into balance. By doing this, it becomes easier for our body to naturally reach homeostasis, getting the boost it requires to produce all the necessary endocannabinoids. Once this is achieved, it’s incredibly probable that your anxieties will reduce significantly, too, as well as your overall stress levels.

Reducing Stress and Anxiety

As we mentioned, one of the functions that the ECS helps to control is stress. With stress often comes a lot of anxiety, so finding ways to manage our stress levels can be revitalizing for our mental health. CBD, when taken in small, reasonable doses, can work directly with our brain’s neurotransmitters to produce what it needs, like serotonin. When our brain is able to produce the right amount of serotonin–not too much nor too little–controlling our emotions and thoughts becomes significantly easier. This is the same concept for the body’s main stress hormone, cortisol, which CBD directly regulates as well.

Speaking of moods, this regulation of neurotransmitters can also help us boost our moods tenfold. With the gloom of COVID-19 constantly bearing down on us, being able to stay positive during this time can do wonders for reducing our anxieties. And while CBD can’t immediately erase our depression, it allows us a way of taking control of it; finally, our mental health in our own hands.

Helping with Sleep

One of CBD’s most popular uses is for helping with sleep. As a chemical compound with such soothing properties, consuming some before bed is the perfect recipe to get your brain to relax and your body to decompress. By directly being able to regulate our stress hormones like cortisol, CBD can help our minds be able to unwind while our body’s aches and pains are soothed by the compound’s anti-inflammatory properties. The combination, then, results in the perfect recipe for sleep.

The better sleep we get, the better we’re able to function on a daily basis. We simply cannot be our best selves when we’re lacking sleep, and things like anxiety and stress only seem to worsen. So, if we can help our bodies receive the perfect amount of sleep every night, it will likely reward us with strength and stability.

Promoting Health and Wellness

In general, CBD is boasting with popularity within the health and wellness industry. Even before the pandemic, people were discovering how helpful this cannabinoid can be within their wellness journeys, giving them not only relaxation and euphoria, but nutrients and nourishment, too. Just as CBD can fill the gaps in our endocannabinoid system to help us reach homeostasis, it can fill the gaps in our nutrition intake as well.

CBD is often being added to health supplements because of its impressive antioxidants and other nutrients. The better we eat, the better we feel, so try adding some CBD to your meals and give your body all of the extra goodness it deserves. When we give our body what it needs, things like stress and anxiety, no matter where it stems from, don’t stand a chance.

Make Life Feel Easier with CBD

All in all, the complex cannabinoid CBD can sure make life feel a bit more manageable, even during a time like this. Though, it is important to keep in mind that CBD affects every person differently, so you may have to experiment a bit to find what works best for you. Always start with small doses and be patient; CBD takes time and respect to work properly.

Take a deep breath, relax, and place a few drops of CBD oil under your tongue. This non-intoxicating compound has the potential to give you the rest and relaxation you need during this global pandemic. While it won’t get rid of your anxiety completely on its own, it can give you the support you need to take your mental health into your own hands. With CBD, even the Coronavirus will feel like just another bump in the road.
